Commercial Description:
A unique marriage between the English tradition of IPAs, the new American revolution of Imperial IPAs and the classic Belgian way of brewing. Houblon Chouffe, although very much hopped as it is, showcases the unique balance between a very strong IPA and a very special Belgian Tripel exclusively created for this ale (Big malty body, distinct dryness, expressive estery fruitiness). - IBU: 59, Original Gravity: 1092

Didn’t know what to think when I saw this one, but boy am I glad I picked it up. Pours out a beautiful golden color with a huge frothy thick fluffy head, if you let it sit for a minute it looks like little puffs of marshmellow. The aroma is an interesting mix of fruit and hops. The taste is very complex with a nice mouthfeel. The fruity notes are nicely complimented by the hops. Nice balance, tommahawk and amarillo are always a good choice in my book. Wonderfully complex beer, not too much like it out there, will have to try to get some more.

Draught at Ma Che Siete Venuti a Fŕ, Roma. September 08. I was stoked to find this on draught. Pours hazy golden with a creamy white head. Nice lacing around the glass. Great aroma of caramel malt, fruit, spices and a splendid floral nose. The flavour is extremely well balanced of malt and fruit, and the alcohol is well hidden. Smooth mouthfeel, very malty and enough bitterness as well, a richly complex Tripel.

Bottle via mystery swap from mibromeo and leopoldstoch (thanks!). Pours a very hazy gold with a large white head. Nose is floral/citrus hops and a bit spicey as well. Very interesting flavor. Hoppy but not bitter in the least. I detect pineapple, orange, lemon, bananna, and pepper as well as some honey and caramel malts. Very very smooth. Medium/full body. Only complaint is that is is over-carbonated. Alcohol is well hidden. World class stuff. Very unique combining an IIPA and a Triple. Am glad i have another bottle!

old rating: 8/4/8/4/18 - 4.2 pours a semi-clear yellow with a orange tint, extremely large white foamy head, and very good lacing. smell is citrus, some fruit, grape, sour malt, a little wheat, and a bit of spice. taste is very smooth, grain, corn, sour malt, hops in the back, a little citrus, banana, pear, aftertaste is bitter and a little dry.

Pours out a golden brown color with a large off white head. aroma was your typical yeasty sweet scent with a nice hoppy citrus note to it. Flavor was similar with a interesting mix of sweet bread and hops. This is an interesting brew and not that bad at all.

On tap at the maproom

served in a snifter, copper orange with a medium sized long lasting white frothy head. The nose was your typical belgian, lots of bannanas yeast and some cream, hints of grapefruit and pepper. The taste is very much an IPA, lots of hops and kick, however, rather calm and gentle due to a subtle but full presence of malts and yeast. This was great, really interesting. Get ahold of this one if you can.

Pop the top and we have a foamer, lost most of the neck. Good thing the beer was ice cold and I had just pulled it from the fridge. If it was warmer I probably would have lost half the bottle. A bit disappointing, that’s something I would expect from a homebrew but not a commercial beer. Pours hazy golden with a huge white lasting head. The most notable part of the aroma is the yeasty esters. Underlying these are hops and some malt. Flavor is interesting. Starts off sweet but then turns dry due to the high level of carbonation. Very noticeable bitterness. Very high carbonation levels, It is ridiculous how much carbonation there is after it warms up. Unique and interesting but loses points due to the absurd level of carbonation.

Hazy yellow pour that gave quite a bit of head. Aroma is a slightly grassy Belgian with a good hint of citrus. Flavor is lightly malted and slightly sweet. It doesn’t offend the senses at all, either with too much bitterness or sweetness. This just has a nice gentle flavor that is combined with a viscous, oily mouth feel.
