Commercial Description:
A unique marriage between the English tradition of IPAs, the new American revolution of Imperial IPAs and the classic Belgian way of brewing. Houblon Chouffe, although very much hopped as it is, showcases the unique balance between a very strong IPA and a very special Belgian Tripel exclusively created for this ale (Big malty body, distinct dryness, expressive estery fruitiness). - IBU: 59, Original Gravity: 1092

Bottle via mystery swap from mibromeo and leopoldstoch (thanks!). Pours a very hazy gold with a large white head. Nose is floral/citrus hops and a bit spicey as well. Very interesting flavor. Hoppy but not bitter in the least. I detect pineapple, orange, lemon, bananna, and pepper as well as some honey and caramel malts. Very very smooth. Medium/full body. Only complaint is that is is over-carbonated. Alcohol is well hidden. World class stuff. Very unique combining an IIPA and a Triple. Am glad i have another bottle!

well the marriage may last because it’s like a farm couple amiable, somewhat sensible and not offensive. a belgian taste that i enjoy. alcohol too strong for me. different but not an interesting hop character. bready, fruity dry finished.

On tap at the maproom

served in a snifter, copper orange with a medium sized long lasting white frothy head. The nose was your typical belgian, lots of bannanas yeast and some cream, hints of grapefruit and pepper. The taste is very much an IPA, lots of hops and kick, however, rather calm and gentle due to a subtle but full presence of malts and yeast. This was great, really interesting. Get ahold of this one if you can.

Pop the top and we have a foamer, lost most of the neck. Good thing the beer was ice cold and I had just pulled it from the fridge. If it was warmer I probably would have lost half the bottle. A bit disappointing, that’s something I would expect from a homebrew but not a commercial beer. Pours hazy golden with a huge white lasting head. The most notable part of the aroma is the yeasty esters. Underlying these are hops and some malt. Flavor is interesting. Starts off sweet but then turns dry due to the high level of carbonation. Very noticeable bitterness. Very high carbonation levels, It is ridiculous how much carbonation there is after it warms up. Unique and interesting but loses points due to the absurd level of carbonation.

Hazy yellow pour that gave quite a bit of head. Aroma is a slightly grassy Belgian with a good hint of citrus. Flavor is lightly malted and slightly sweet. It doesn’t offend the senses at all, either with too much bitterness or sweetness. This just has a nice gentle flavor that is combined with a viscous, oily mouth feel.

bottle, at Dickinsonbeer’s pre-TAP gathering. those crazy gnomes, they thought they’d brew a west coast IPA? the body was cloudy yellow, the head was creamy and off-white. looks like a tripel. aroma is hoppy - smells like an IPA. flavor is banana, sweet malt, with a strong hop backbone. tastes like a mash-up of an IPA and a dubbel. those gnomes got their gnar boots on while working magic!

Bottle. Golden color, three finger white head. Huge saaz aroma. Taste is spicy belgian yeast, citrus hops (amarillo) and noble saaz flavor. Moderate to full bitterness. Thanks Jim!

illini08 cracked this open while at home last weekend. huge white head, almost whipped cream like. bready, citrusy aroma. hazy yellow with a mass of floaties. decent flavor but way too much carbonation for me. Hoppy Little Gnome from Flossmoor may have been a take-off of this beer, but FS did it better IMO.
