Commercial Description:
A unique marriage between the English tradition of IPAs, the new American revolution of Imperial IPAs and the classic Belgian way of brewing. Houblon Chouffe, although very much hopped as it is, showcases the unique balance between a very strong IPA and a very special Belgian Tripel exclusively created for this ale (Big malty body, distinct dryness, expressive estery fruitiness). - IBU: 59, Original Gravity: 1092

Post-Mondial tasting at Goldorak’s pad, from 750 ml bottle. A thick, hazy light gold body with nice lasting fluffy head and fine lacing....somewhat spicy, thick malty-sweet aroma with strong citric hops showing up rather late, but with impact....the body is an excellent mix of influences, the spicy PNW hops actually enhancing the moderately to heavily sweet tripel malts, floral-honey notes throughout keeping things from getting too out-of-hand bitter, until near the very end where the IIPA character starts to take over.....light, soft, fluffy mouthfeel and strong carbonation. Very well done indeed, if all cross-cultural collaboriations work half as well I’ll be very excited!

Bottled. Hazy golden coloured. Yeasty floral aroma with notes of citrus fruits and soap. The flavour is very well balanced with a full bodied bready malt profile interacting perfectly with massive amounts of hops, but in the end the hops take over and rule the finish with a lingering dryness and bitterness. A very succesful wedding between Belgium and America.

Pours a hazy pale golden topped by a huge rocky white head that remains throughout the brew and nice lacing . Aroma is sweet, floral, herbal, light pepper and some citrus. Flavor is moderately sweet, herbal, floral, pepper and grass. Nice balance along the lines of DeRanke Bitter. Short dry bitter finish. Soft mouthfeel, medium body.

Golden beer, light sediment floats, although there is a major pile in these. Huge, frothy, head. Active carbonation. Great aroma,of hops, yeast, and malts. The hops are big in aroma, but the yeast and malts are easy to pick up. Mouth is just a little to fizzy for me,but slick for strong beer. Initial dryness, with a great malt, yeast interplay. Finish is lemon grass hoppy, slightly citric, and the yeast and alcohol(only touch),mix well together. Very tasty

Bottled. Golden coloured. Unclear. Dense creamy beige head. Herb, sweetness, yeast andd light flowers is in the aroma. Very dense and different. Flavour as well is very dense. Loafds of spices, herbs and flowers. Fruity and sweet notes and a light touch of yeast to balance the hoppy flavours. Complex and very balanced. Full bodied. Dry. Has a balanced bitterness in the end garnished with a pleasant alcholtouch. Very good one. Thanks to Sliffy for sending this very good beer in a trade.

I liked this a lot. The soft, refined character of Chouffe is retained in its hazy golden color, pillowy head and delicate palate. The hop infusion is welcome on my american palate adding a fruit tartness and spicy notes with a dry finish.

Very cloudy, with a frothy, medium-bubbled head. The aroma is very pleasant: slightly sweet and hoppy, very floral with a sprinkling of refreshing oranges. The citrus comes through strongly in the flavor as well. A perfectly balanced amount of hops - very crisp and refreshing, although it sits pretty heavy because of the high alcohol. My only complaint (whichi is a small one) is that the carbonation is a little much.

Nice hazy golden coloured body with a super-dense frothy white head. Aroma of strong honey, malt, hops, yeast, curacao and nice coriander seed. Full-bodied; Great strong maltiness along with a great hoppy flavour, especially for a belgie. Nice sweet kicks persist with a touch of malt as a backbone really make this one good. Aftertaste is potent and long-lasting - a truly nice beer to sample. I had this 75 cL bottle purchased from Oliver’s Beverage in Albany, New York on 03-March-2007.
