Commercial Description:
A unique marriage between the English tradition of IPAs, the new American revolution of Imperial IPAs and the classic Belgian way of brewing. Houblon Chouffe, although very much hopped as it is, showcases the unique balance between a very strong IPA and a very special Belgian Tripel exclusively created for this ale (Big malty body, distinct dryness, expressive estery fruitiness). - IBU: 59, Original Gravity: 1092

With a funky, slightly sour and sweet zesty flavor, this special IPA brew is delicious. The aroma is full of sweetness but not much hops for an IPA. The color is perfectly golden champagne. I’m so glad they import this delicious, rare Belgian IPA.

33cl bottle. Poured very carefully as to avoid the yeast on the bottom. Pours a bright golden orange body with small bits of particulate floating around. Lots of rising carbonation. Even though I poured this slowly, it produced a gigantic snow-white head that remained very creamy and took absolutely forever to dissipate. While dissipating it made for some crazy looking shapes. At one point, it looked like a cookie cutter in the shape of a star had gently landed in the middle of the head. When it finally dissipated, it remained loaded with lacing and very swirly on the surface. Sexy looking beer. Aroma is heavily malted and a refined Belgian yeast strain, however the yeast is pretty mellow compared to similar styled beers. Definitely has the sweetness and spiciness characters of the tripel style. Lots of raspberry candy smells. Soft, but sharp citrus hops balance the aroma very well. Kind of sparkly or even perfume smelling. The flavor is fantastic. Its a sweeter version of any Belgian Strong Ale. Lots of fruity yeast flavors and sweetly spiced malts. Very breadlike maltiness too. Wow is this complex. Theres more of that candy sugar, some light grassy hoppiness, and a delicate bitter finish. This mouthful is great too. Its extremely soft and light, but medium to full bodied and a tickling sparkling carbonation. Overall, this is a phenomenal beer. It starts sweet and malty, then slowly moves to a delicately spiced and yeasty middle, before ending with a pinch of sweet malts and a subtle, but defined grassy bitterness. Lingers lightly as sweet, spiced, and hopped. This is one of my new all-time faves. Wow!

English comments: Wow! This is a truly original, audacious and delicious beer. Citrusy bitterness and powertaste of malt. Some subtilities in the fruity dryness. And, hourra!, no spicyness and barely a trace of alchool, when cold at least. Much too easy to drink at 9%; this is dangerous! Best triple I had, even if I see this beer more like a DIPA, mainly because of the hop-madness in there. I even think it is a little under-rated, at the actual 3.94/5.0... The future is decided: I’ll buy so much of these!...

My favorite beer that I’ve tried so far. A combination of my two favorite styles - IPA and Belgian - and done so freakin well. Tastes like pears, raisins, hops, grapefruit. Great head.

Draft. Hazy pale orange with a nice thick white head, that last till the end. Aroma if very floral and fruity and fresh. Flavors of very present hops and some fruits and spices with a very well balanced taste. The taste is quite complex and original with a feel of findind different flavors as I drink this beer. The taste last long in mouth and is very enjoyable. This has been one of the best new beers this year. I love it and want more.

750 mL Bottle. Murky yellow body with a big foamy white head that settles to a persistant rocky layer that clings to the glass in soapy clumps. Intensely hoppy on the nose with a bouquet of grapefruit peel, grass, wildflowers, and an innuendo of pine. Light sweet malts and a bold hop expression dominate the flavor; there is also a faint innuendo of honey. Grapefruit peel aftertaste, and a linger of hop bitter in the finish. Hop Lovers rejoice!

Whoa - the hop aroma on this one is just simply beautiful. Floral, orange rind citrus. But then wow again, the flavor hits you up front like a real tripel, sugar pillows, a touch of phenol, and some alcohol burn. In fact, this one doesn’t hide the alcohol as well others. Appearance: well, a hazy copper-orange for starters but the rocky meringue of a head is its own story. Finish is dry, with a distinct lingering bitter hop, which has a peppery spicy character that is complemented by the peppery kick of the alcohol. On the whole, just wow.
