Commercial Description:
Christian Moerlein Doppelbock is brewed in accordance with Germany's Reinheitsgebot Purity Law of 1516. What makes Doppelbock most enjoyable is its rich, full body, which is superbly balanced for smoothness. It will be appreciated for its robust malt and carmel characteristics. Enjoy its smooth, velvety taste and you will agree that it is Quite Simply a Better Doppelbock.

Christian Moerlein Dopplebock is a dark amber/mahogany color with a small, foamy, light brown crown. Mild carbonation. (As far as appearance goes, it’s nearly identical to Christian Moerlein Select Dunkel. Beyond that, they are two very different beers!) Aroma is initially crisp hops and then becomes sweet and malty with some hops shining through in background. Deep, rich malt flavor. Wonderful roasted caramel - almost a weak milk chocolate. Very smooth (velvety would be an apropos description). The alcohol is fairly well blended with only a tinge of astringency. The finish is warming. This beer is pretty full bodied and has a creamy mouthfeel. This is probably my favorite Christian Moerlein brew. The Select Lager is probably #2. However, the Doppelbock is a bit hard to come by right now, but they should be releasing more soon! 12 oz bottle from West Side Liquors. Very good all around. Not on par with an Optimator, but a nice, drinkable beer. I found it on sale for $5.99 for a six pack.

This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a small sized head of finely sized light brown colored bubbles that was mostly lasting and left behind a transparent typically carbonated red brown colored body and a good lacing. The mild aroma was malty and sweet. The crisp mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish with a lingering sweet aftertaste. The yummy flavor contained notes of malt sweet and caramel. Delicious and one I would certainly buy again.

American Version of a dooublebock, lacked the alcohol taste Iove, and then compenstate with sweet carmel- rich honey smoothness. Nice and full, but nota beeryou could drink too many in one sitting, smooth finisih. A tad too carbonated.

Bottle. Small, smooth tan head that mostly diminished, poor amount of lacing, transparent, carbonated, and a ruby hue. Sweet malty and caramel nose. Flavor was sweet, malty, caramel, hint of chocolate, roasty and somewhat thin. Tingly, thin mouthfeel. Light body. Decent for this style, but there are better ones out there to be had.

Pours a transparent copper mahogany with a thin, wispy off-white head. Rich caramel malty earthy aroma has a touch of tartness and German lager yeast. Starts semi-sweet, thinning some with grainy flavor and mild acidity toward the finish. Fairly authentic character, but needs some more balance and complexity.

I got almost no head pouring this out of its 12 oz bottle. This is a dark beer that glows red when held up to the light. Nose of burnt table sugar. Sweet, malty beer with lots of raisen and other dried fruits, some chocolate and caramel sweetness, and something burnt toward the end. There is a lot of water in this. Not an especially exciting double bock.

Dark brown, with a tan head. Aromas are malt and dark fruit. Flavors are sweet malt, fruit, and some spice. Kinda thin bodied.
