Commercial Description:
Christian Moerlein Doppelbock is brewed in accordance with Germany's Reinheitsgebot Purity Law of 1516. What makes Doppelbock most enjoyable is its rich, full body, which is superbly balanced for smoothness. It will be appreciated for its robust malt and carmel characteristics. Enjoy its smooth, velvety taste and you will agree that it is Quite Simply a Better Doppelbock.

12 oz bottle pours deep dark brown with a creamy offwhite head. Aroma of sweet chocolate and caramel malts and a touch of nuts. Flavor is robust. Chocolate, caramel, nuts. On the palate this is quite creamy and coats the mouth well a fantastic chocolate aftertaste lingers and makes you want the next sip. Fantastic brew. Much better than I expected. Glad I bought a whole 6 pack.

Dark red / brown in color. Head is an off-white, thick and rocky. Delicious malt flavors abound. Sweet maltiness dominates, as one would expect from a strong bock beer. This one is satisfying and doesn’t disappoint. The perfect springtime companion. One of the better bock beers available in the region at any price.

A very nice domestic Dopple, with quite a kick, this one pours a a dark brown brew , with a thin, fine-bubbled tan head of foam and sweet, molassesy aroma. I like this one (too bad it’s not made in Cincinnati anymore).

This is the first I’ve seen the Christian Moerlein beers since the mid 90’s. I see that it’s contract brewed for them by the Lion brewery. The beer has a good full dark caramel malt aroma. A deep mahogony brown color with a good cream colored head. A nice malt flavor with a good dark caramel malt taste that isn’t too sweet. Has a lighter body than a lot of doppelbocks with just a hint of the alcohol content coming through. Beer has a little dryness in the finsh which rounds out a well made doppelbock. A very good example of the style. Drank 2 of these again on Apr 21 and had to up more rating a little. This is a very good doppelbock!

Thanks to OhioDad for this beer.

Poured dark brown with ruby highlites with a small creamy light tan head. Aroma is vinous with a touch of dry alcohol. Taste is sweet grapes, a touch of cinnamon, a bit of alcohol... smooth finish with just a touch of bitter dryness. Sweet and rich, clean-tasting. Wow, this is much better than I thought it would be. More people need to try this. Thanks again, Scott!

thanks to ohiodad for sending this one my way in trade. a robust brown with out much head after a vigorous pouring. caramel & chocolate malts dominate the flavors somewhat buttery on the tongue which has an effect of lingering sweetness. solid beer!

I think Christian Moerlein did a good job with this one. Dark brown in color, translucent. Aroma is sweet, mostly caramelly and slightly buttery. Hallertau, Saaz or some noble hop is apparent upon swill it around in my mouth. Sweet finish that is broken up by slight hop bite.

This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a small sized head of finely sized light brown colored bubbles that was mostly lasting and left behind a transparent typically carbonated red brown colored body and a good lacing. The mild aroma was malty and sweet. The crisp mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish with a lingering sweet aftertaste. The yummy flavor contained notes of malt sweet and caramel. Delicious and one I would certainly buy again.
