Commercial Description:
Christian Moerlein Hefeweizen is a traditional German-styled cloudy wheat beer with a balanced flavor of fruit, clove and other spices. "hefe" means yeast, and "weizen" means wheat. Serve it with a slice of lemon or orange to accent the flavor of fruit for a crisp and refreshing experience. Compare its flavor and quality to any craft or imported wheat beer and you will agree that Cristian Moerlein Hefeweizen is Quite Simply a Better Wheat Beer.

Bottle. Sweet banana, apple, clove and wheat malt aroma. Orange tan color - cloudy with small head. Sweet clove, citrus, banana and wheat flavor. A tad on the sweet side but otherwise very good - one of the better American Hefe Weizens. - stands up to many German Hefes.

From a bottle - A mild yet enjoyable hefe, with an accent on the cloves over the banana body. This one pours the approbrate yellow, with nice banana and banana esters. Tastewise, it is heavy on the clove/spicey side, but much better than, say, Shiner Hefeweizen. I’ll buy it again!

Pours bright hazy golden with a thin foamy head. Aroma of cloves, sour apple (almost brett-like), and fruity phenols. Taste is sweet, yeasty, and a bit tart. Notes of apples, toffee, and bread dough. Mouthfeel is thin to medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Got this one from shigadeyo. Pours a murky dirty amber with only a faint head and not much carbonation. Aroma has a nice citrus spice thing going on. Also malts, corn and grains. Flavor is also quite nice. Pretty big yeasts with mild spices and citrus. Getting some bananna in the flavor also. Aside from the flat mouthfeel I found it very enjoyable. Thanks Craig.

Bottle... Hazy, yellow ale with a small, fizzy, white head. The citrusy aroma is full of spice, banana and light smoke. Malty flavor with good balance. Spicy and lemony without being overdone with hefe yeast. Medium-bodied and creamy with moderate carbonation.. Malty, sweet, lightly spicy finish. Not a favorite style of mine, but a damn fine brew nonetheless.

5/22/2007: Christian Moerlein Hefeweizen pours a hazy, pale amber color with an average, foamy, off-white head. The aroma is wheaty and yeasty with a hint of banana. The flavor is similar with some additional caramel wheat maltiness and a hint of clove. This beer has a medium body and is pretty smooth. This is a good beer for those just venturing into German Hefeweizens and even for those that don’t especially love the style but try to enjoy one from time to since the flavor isn’t overly banana or overly clone and not too thin in body.

12 oz bottle shared with Rob.

(Bottle via trade with <A HREF=http://www.ratebeer.com/ViewUser.asp?UserID=3 target=blank>shigadeyo, thanks Craig!) Pours cloudy light grayish amber/gold with a large off-white head. Aroma is citrus and wheat malt. Mouthfeel is fairly smooth, pretty hefty for the style. Flavor is citrusy, tangy, a bit sour, and pretty malty for a hefeweizen. I believe I was even getting some caramel and vanilla flavor as it warmed. Maybe some banana fruitiness as well. Fair, but the off/sourish hints didn’t add to the drinkability.

Bottle sampled at Allyn’s Cafe Moerlein tasting. Poured hazy golden with an average fizzy white head that diminished slowly with good lacing. Moderate banana wheat aroma. Medium body with a sticky texture. Medium sweet banana flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. I would recommend this to a freind.
