Commercial Description:
Christian Moerlein Oktoberfest is a traditional Marzen-styled, bottom-fermented lager. This is a little darker and hardier for a season when days turn shorter and nights turn cooler. It is pale copper in color and has a malty aroma and sweetness balanced by hops for a low, clean hop finish. Compare its flavor and quality to any craft or imported Oktoberfest and you will agree that Christian Moerlein Oktoberfest is quite simply a better Oktoberfest beer.

Aquired from shigadeyo in our most recent trade. Pours a medium clean amber with a small off white head. Aroma is quite sugary malt, light spice, light sourness. If it is in fact only 4.1% alcohol it sure has a nice rich flavor. Sweet malts, nutty, and spice. Not bad at all.. Thanks again Craig.

(Bottle via trade with <A HREF=http://www.ratebeer.com/ViewUser.asp?UserID=3 target=blank>shigadeyo, thanks Craig!) A rather unexciting Oktoberfest...Pours clear slightly burnt orange/amber with a tall biege head. Aroma of vanilla, light caramel, light pumpkin and maybe a little spice. Mouthfeel medium light, touches of prickliness. Flavor is a little light on the malt side for the style - light egg, maybe a little pumpkin, maybe a hint of caramel. As it warms I’m getting more hints of light sour and wet dishrag. Not particularly great for a style I usually like.

Bottle from Shigadeyo. Pours copper with a beige head. Bready malt aroma. Flavor of german pale malts. However, this lacks the spicy hops to counter the malts. Add the watery texture, and you have an barely average beer. Thanks Craig, now I know your standards are for bonus beers- heh heh.

12oz, no date from shigadeyo, thanks Craig! Poured aggressively--a clear orange dark amber with a 1/2 finger light beige head, very low retention. Aroma of sweet caramel, light toffee and nuts. Some light indiscriminate fruitiness was arguably there as well. Flavor adds a slightly dirty and metallic element. Also light cardboard. Minimal bitterness. Low carbonation with a watery thin body. These guys don’t make very good beers.

Pours a light amber color with a slight head that recedes quickly. Smell is a little disappointing. Reminds me too much of a subdued light BMC beer. The taste is directly inline with what my nose was warning me. While the bitterness is more lighter, there are subtle hints of Octoberfest spiciness. A little light on the carbonation, which is good. This is a highly sessionable beer. It’s very light drinking and goes down easy. At $5.49 for a sixer, I could handle a six of it once every year. If your in the mood, and enjoy Oktoberfest beers, this is cheap enough that it removes the risk of being disappointed too much. There are better Oktoberfests out there, but if you can locate a bottle, it’s worth a taste.

Aroma a bit soapy, if anything. Or a nutty malt. Not unpleasant. Clear amber color with a somewhat lasting beige head. Starts with medium mouthfeel, and a bit of spice. Then malty sweetness becomes dominant. Pretty good for a lager. Arguably there is some hop in the end.

Pours orangish amber with a fully receding off-white head. Aroma of grainy malt, toasted bread, some fusels. Taste is moderately sweet, notes of vegetable, grass, fusels, and toasted malt. Mouthfeel is medium/full bodied with a slight sweetness and moderate carbonation. A decent recipe with significant flaws in the process.
