Commercial Description:
Select Dunkel is a traditional German styled dark lager, brewed in accordance with Germany's RheinheitsgebotPurity Law of 1516. What makes Select Dunkel distinctive is its smooth refreshing drinkable flavor and its clean finish. We think you'll agree that Christian Moerlein Select Dunkel is quite simply a better dark beer.

Pours coffee brown w/ a shortlived shallow spritzy froth. Aroma is slightly malty to nonexistant. Medium nectar w/ ample mellow residual effers. A malty brew w/ a mild sweetness factor. Flavors brownie batter, raisons, and bitter fence wood. The finish is almost too bittered leaving a nondesirable parched, sour malt flavor.

Pours a dark amber color with a medium white head. Aroma of sweet tobacco malts and church. Taste is watered down with hints of mild tobacco and smokey wood branches. Average.

Bottle courtesy of shigadeyo. Transparent mahogany, minimal tan head. Aroma consists of roasted grain and nuts, toffee. Flavor much the same with light smoke near the finish. Thin body, even thinner in finish. Not bad overall, just rather weak in general.

Aquired from shigadeyo. Pours dark brown with whispy head. Very big aroma but I can’t pin point it. Maybe some molasses, roasted malts and light toffee. Flavor is malty with faint smoke. A touch of soy. Body is a little thin but overall it is not too shabby.

12 oz bottle. Got about what I expected from this one. Cola color with cola head. Macro aromas, with a flavor that was not very roasty or malty. OK, but not great.

Bottle from shigadeyo, sampled with badnewsbeers. Toffee body, thin off-white head. Toasty aroma with toffee and hints of butterscotch. Light toasty, caramely body, with butterscotch and toffee rounding out the palate. Thin but decent.
