Commercial Description:
Christoffel Robertus is a low-fermenting ruby-red beer, brewed in the Münchener-style. It is a malty, fresh beer with a light sweetness. The typical hopbitterness found in Blond, is very lightly present in Robertus. The use of an extensive amount of selected barley gives Robertus the special malty taste and aroma.

On tap. Clear reddish color. Low carbonation, no head. Nutty aroma. Sour taste and a dry finish.

Pours a dark reddish colour. Smells like a plain dark beer, nothing special. Small head. Tastes of burnt caramel, nuts. Long-lasting bitter aftertaste. Thin and bubbly on the tongue. Overall, nothing special for a dark beer.

This beer was different, but enough that I actually liked it. Pours to a cloudy brownish gold, with an off-white head that dissipates soon, but leaves good lacing. Initial aroma is malty sweetness, nuts and caramel, but as the glass warms, the aroma is much more fruity, mostly apples and grapes. Flavor is a sour fruit, again, apples and grapes, and the finish is sour and dry, but good. It’s a shame this is not made any longer.

Red-brown colour with slight off-white head that dissappears quickly. Weak fruity aroma with malty sweetness. The mouthfeel is spritzy, and the taste is a bit nutty with caramel sweetness.

(Bottle, best before 11/04) Pours a amber-brown body with a small off-white head. Aroma of toasted malt, smokiness, basement, fruity, and a hint of cocoa. Flavor of toasted bread, marzipan, and some cherry.

Though rather pretty with its deep orange hues and sporting a decent, dense-ish foam, this beer is nothing special to me. What prompted me to jot down a few lines after all was actually its superior mouthfeel -- sort of thick, approaching creamy, and with carbonation levels mercifully lowered.
