mullet (798), Melbourne, Australia Oct 1, 2005 Updated: Jan 4, 2006From a 2L bottle at vanvenlo and lunkie’s place. The incredible fiery red colour hinted at the maltiness of this one. Clear, with decent head retention. Aroma is mostly toasty, spicy, decocted malt with a bit of weird clove. Quite light-bodied but with a really nice, subtle malt character and there’s a light acidity (wouldn’t describe it as "tart" or "sour") which makes it interesting. Good stuff - seems like it’d really endear itself to me if I were to have a session on it. RR: Weird. It has all the nice hoppy, yeasty aroma that the Blond should have, but I just can’t get over the fact that it’s thin. Lacks malt, tastes adjuncty even. Still nice, but not particularly great. HenrikSoegaard (4263), Randers, Denmark Sep 24, 2005 Bottle. Light brown head, mostly lasting, wonderfull red brown colour. A very fine beer. Nice aroma and flavour, creamy texture. A beer I would drink again. CampbellWilson (533), Scotland Sep 17, 2005 Bottle from Beers of Europe. Lovely reddish colour with beige head, slightly hazy. Biscuity, toasty, malt aroma. Pleasant malty taste with a little bit of hop in the finish. Very good. FROTHINGSLOSH (1961), GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 14, 2005 Updated: Jun 28, 2006After having the blond, and being horribly disappointed in it I was not sure what to think of this one. Sampled from a rather nice 11.2 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark caramel color with a medium sized tan head. The beer is very heavily carbonated. The aroma is fairly faint but has light elements of ripe fruit and molasses. The flavor is bitter with a hint of molasses and ripe fruit and a moderate brown sugar element. The finish is tangy. The overall flavor is pleasant but rather subdued. This is not a particularly remarkable beer. But at least it was not crap like the blond. tupalev (2605), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Sep 9, 2005 Bottle, Ciro’s. Great bottle. Dark yellow pour, slight crisp hop aroma. Wonderful slightly sweet lager taste with hint of crisp hops. Medium bodied. Full of flavour and well balanced, this is a lager that actually satisfies. Not complex at all but a damn good beer - I’m 2/2 with these guys. manuchampions (95), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Sep 8, 2005 Tried at Smokeless Joe’s. I love the blonde, not so keen on the Robertus. Darker, less hoppy. Complex but more subtle flavor. Might have been nubbed by the refridgerator temperature it was served at. Ughsmash (3981), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Aug 30, 2005 Somewhat deep reddish auburn pour with a short well-retained head. Quite a bit of sediment in there. Spices, caramel, and darker fruits provided a very nice aroma. Flavor followed the aroma well, with a nice spicy bouquet on the finish and some bread. Very fine brew. Palidor19 (1750), Brandon, Florida, USA Aug 28, 2005 Unlike the Blond, this one is more for the drink with the meal instead of a summer drinking beer. Nice taste of caramel malts. A very worthy beer for your time
