Commercial Description:
Christoffel Robertus is a low-fermenting ruby-red beer, brewed in the Münchener-style. It is a malty, fresh beer with a light sweetness. The typical hopbitterness found in Blond, is very lightly present in Robertus. The use of an extensive amount of selected barley gives Robertus the special malty taste and aroma.

33cl Bottle at Café Gollem. Dark amber colour, creamy light beige head. Aroma of caramel, sweet malts, a hint of chocolate. Flavour is sweet, toasted malts, caramel, some nuttiness. Slightly dry bitter finish. Medium bodied, soft carbonation. Overall very German, and good.

Bière brun rouge avec un voil moyen et peu ou pas de mousse Parfums maltés. Goût suret, de fruits rouges séchés. Bouche fraîche et petillante. Bonne bière.

330 ml bottle from Bieropholie, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass. DE30/08.

App.: Very cloudy, reddish-brown, decent light tan foam. Aroma: Tart cherry and other fruits, a bit of dark dried fruit, slightly nutty, molasses, some minty herbals – like rootbeer, brown sugar and other nice sweet malts. Palate: Medium+ body, moderate effervescence. Flav.: More lightly tart fruit, some rains and figs, molasses, minty herbals, slightly nutty, brown sugar, apples, lightly sweet with a touch of tartness and a touch of bitterness.

Seems to have a Belgian slant to the style. Tasty.

(Rating #2159)

Pours roughly the same color as the label, a dull desert red with a small white head and some larger ugly bubbles. Very malty aroma, lightly grassy, smells German. Flavor follows nose, rich malty, lightly sweet and toasty, hint of fruit and a bit grassy, so it tastes German too. Medium/light bodied, nice mouthful, not sticky nor chalky, light soda carbonation. Nice maple-syrup finish. I need to try a fresher bottles as this one is a bit old; I have a feeling it would taste much richer. Very drinkable even when old and stale.

In short: An infected bottle
How: Bottle 330ml, consumed fresh a few weeks after receiving through private importation
The look: Cloudy orangy amber body topped by a medium but short-lived beige head
In long: Rotting fruits, pop-corn, wine vinegar, undesired sourness. No need to go any further this is a seriously infected bottle. So infected that I couldn’t even try to make out what it was supposed to taste like. Drain poor. I’ve got another bottle from the same batch but after this monstrosity that other bottle will only gather dust like my “Eating Healthy and Stay Slim” cooking book.
