Commercial Description:
Christoffel Robertus is a low-fermenting ruby-red beer, brewed in the Münchener-style. It is a malty, fresh beer with a light sweetness. The typical hopbitterness found in Blond, is very lightly present in Robertus. The use of an extensive amount of selected barley gives Robertus the special malty taste and aroma.

(330 ml swingtop bottle, bought in Denmark). Copper colour, hazy, good thick head. Lovely aroma of spices, leather and caramel - from the aroma, I’d swear this was a Belgian ale. Bottom fermented it is, and it’s easier to sense this is a lager through the flavour and aftertaste, which still are very good. Malty flavour, mild spices and caramel without too much sweetness. Lightly hopped. Moreish.

Pour is lightly hazed cola brown with a thin off white head...smell is lightly sweet and fruity (figs) and wet cardboard...taste is sweet with a woody chemical flavor...a far cry from the blonde...vegetable water and cardboard...blech...

It looked than it tasted. Blonde and nice foam, bubbling and good alcohol taste. Best Dutch beer I have ever drunk.

Very hazy and cloudy. A nice malty and fruty beer. The balance between the bitterness and the malty sweetness i well done. This is one to enjoy!

Slightly hazy burnt amber body with an off-white head. Fairly good head retention. Grainy aroma along with a faint whiff of caramel that becomes more noticeable later in the drink. Fairly smooth straight-forward taste that is not complex. Soft pepper, milky creamy texture, soft carbonation and some dried fruit. Expected a bit more bitterness and/or roasted flavours. As a Vienna I really like this, as a Dark Lager it lacks a bit.

Pop, phissh, and the swingtop sprays my forearm, somehow...rich, dark brown color, complete opacity, save for the sides, big, milky beige head of foam. Fruity nose, grapes, cherries, berries, raisiny, sweetness, with a roasty appeal as well, putting me in mind of brandy, or port wine. Bold on the palate, a full flush of flavor, very tasty, full of hops on the fore, and malt all the way through. Is this supposed to be a doppelbock? Not bad, whether it is or isn’t. Nice zing in the taste, medium to ful bodied, tingly and tasty, though it drops off a bit too early, would be better if had a bit more heft. Pretty nice, as it is, though...yeah, I’ll take another...

08.19.05 330ml swingtop. Cloudy light auburn with small head of lasting tan foam. Aroma is salt and pepper malts, dried flowers, cinnamon, and dried pit fruits. Absolutely stunning aroma, beautiful. Flavor is mildy sweet, doughy and salty soft pretzel, lingering gorp. Spiciness from hops and yeast lingers long after the swallow, hints of sour. Love it.

Deep amber body with a moderate yeast load and a fading beige head. Pleasant aroma of caramel, stewed apples, plums, and toasted biscuits, plus an organic, earthy quality. Nice malty flavor with an edge of dark fruit skins. Suprisingly well attenuated; mouthfeel is somewhat sparse and fizzy, but adequate. A nice Vienna, with good depth of character.
