Commercial Description:
Christoffel Robertus is a low-fermenting ruby-red beer, brewed in the Münchener-style. It is a malty, fresh beer with a light sweetness. The typical hopbitterness found in Blond, is very lightly present in Robertus. The use of an extensive amount of selected barley gives Robertus the special malty taste and aroma.

Aoma holds sweet malts that invoke raisin and fruit cake. Opaque dark amber in color with a quickly dimishing light tan head. Fore is malty sweet with dark fruit notes, mild caramel and a light not quite tartness that puncuates the malt nicely. Smooth and subtle.

hazy copper, no head. Malty sweet aroma. Hoppy flavour, medium body. Tame aftertaste. I think this is my first 'vienna' and I have to say it was quite good!

Unfiltered watermelon. Sticky, fluffy off-white head. Candied malt aroma laced with spicy hops and cedar. Slightly phenolic with hints of nutty yeast, mineral, and roast. Quite round and fruity. Soft body. Fuzzy carbonation. Spicy hop character lurks beneath the tangy malts at first sip. Malts become fuller, midway, balanced by a continual cedary wood and spicy rye character. Herbal hop backdrop, along with plenty of dryness, complements the roasted, sweet bready malt overlay at the finish with lighter traces of unsweetened chocolate, woody malts, and honeydew. Lingering rose petals and roasted malts. Although it doesn’t hold a candle to their Pils, this is a quaffable, yet satisfyingly malty Vienna.

I was told this was newly received at the shop, but it sure seemed to have some age. Pours bronze with a small soapy off-white head. The aroma has cream, roasted malt, household cleaner and some toffee-ish traits. Medium slick body with very minor carbonation. The flavor starts a bit metallic with some caramel cream, raisins and dark fruits along with some mustiness. The finish is fruitier and lightly sour. This was very underwhelming to me. Hopefully I can get a better bottle and rerate at a later date.

Murky reddish brown colour. Smell is a little sour, almost spritzy, peaches. Fizzy, sour feel in the mouth. Pretty smooth finish.

33cl bottle, decanted into a Christoffel glass. Malty, sweet aroma, some dark caramel and raisin along with lighter notes of plum and cherry. Lightly hazy garnet in color with a light tan, subsiding head. Flavor profile is sugary and fruity as well, plenty of sweetness from beginning to end along with some faintly toasty nuttiness and grapey tones, there is also a subtle yeast presence and milky chocolate character for the finish. Medium bodied with a smooth palate. Interesting and flavorful take on the style.
