The taste is also sweet and malty and quite drinkable. A good example of its style but not a home hitter for me. leaparsons (4755), Leicester, Leicestershire, England
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 10, 2005 Bottle. Brown, pink and red in colour. Aromas are sweet, smooth chocolate with a contrasting but complementary fruity sourness. Flavours are earthy and fruity, especially berries with a malty, sweet base. Dry on the finish. Quite addictive. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 14, 2006 Wow, what a coincidence. Murph and I were just discussing 6-9-06, and I see that this one has a 69 overall score. Bottle from Super Saver. The pour is a nice deep brown with a 2-finger khaki head. Aromas of heavy corn flakes greet the nose, with some hazelnuts, grapey fruits, and a lot of brown sugar and cacao notes. The palate is not real complex, and a bit of a letdown after the great look and smell, with flavor hints of tart grapey fruit, some cereally malt, and some cacao, nuts, and brown sugar hints. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 1, 2006 Hazy brown ale with a thick creamy light moka head. Aroma of caramel and herbal hops, with some light signs of oxidation. In mouth, a rather sweet pruney malt, with light nuttyness and some crispyness. Hops come later, herbal in character. Some light alcohol warmth. Medium bodied, but a bit cloying. BB B/02/2006 (?). Ernest (4515), Boulder, Colorado, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 6, 2004 Bottle (BB 02/05). Head is initially average sized, frothy, off-white, mostly diminishing. Body is hazy dark amber, bottle conditioned. Aroma is moderately malty (toasted bread, grain, cookie), lightly hoppy (flowers), trace yeast (horseblanket), with hints of allspice and spruce. Flavor is moderately sweet, moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, moderately acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation, slightly metallic. Slightly unpleasant sour twang (despite being fresh enough) hurts the flavor score for me. But there are some intriguing background notes in the aroma that keep this interesting (winter holiday smells...pumpkin pie spices and evergreens). HenrikSoegaard (4427), Randers, Denmark

Nice aroma and flavour, creamy texture. A beer I would drink again. muzzlehatch (4427), Burlington, Vermont, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 10, 2004 Updated: Mar 18, 200433 cl bottle, from the gorgeous gift pack with the Blond (why can't I get this in VT). Medium maple color, smallish stable head. Sweetish nose, hints of maple sugar and oaky goodness, lots of caramel. Sweet malty body, very light, some woody/smoky bitterness towards the finish. Smooth, but assertive. Could be just a bit fuller, but I give it high marks for the complexity finishing. Not as good as the Blond, but this is one phenomenal lager brewery! motelpogo (4399), Plzen, Czech Republic
