Commercial Description:
Christoffel Robertus is a low-fermenting ruby-red beer, brewed in the Münchener-style. It is a malty, fresh beer with a light sweetness. The typical hopbitterness found in Blond, is very lightly present in Robertus. The use of an extensive amount of selected barley gives Robertus the special malty taste and aroma.

Poured a lightly hazy, auburn color with a medium sized, off white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of dried fruits, caramel malts, toffee, and some nuts. Taste was very malty; caramel malts, toasted dough, nutty, with brown sugar, light citrus fruits, and a low bitterness as well.

(Sampled draught at Cafe Kabörk, Köpenhamn, Denmark) Nice red color, white to tag head. Acidic scent, rather acidic to sour taste. Not really my style, and wouldn’t call it a Vienna for sure. Spritzy mouthfeel, low bitterness.

2004 bottle. Pours a caramel/amber body, with a light transluscence from the small amount of sediment in it. But a little weak and transparent after it settles. Rapidly disipating, light beige head. Aroma is lightly spicy, with some nut-brown characteristics (dry walnut-like flavors, with brown sugar and a bit of cola). Flavor is full of light toasted grains, sweet caramel and brassy hops bitterness. Ends with a good balance of sweet/bitter and gets a good lager yeast punch in. Terrifically quenching vienna here, as quenching as their pilsener with a little more oomph to it. I’m surprised to see the parity between the two, though I guess the fresh, spicy/herbal hops in the pils get a lot of high marks. No alcohol, no thinning, maybe a touch of metallic flavors or something dirty, but it’s faint. Body is medium, no chewiness.

(Bottle) Medium Almond head with a dark amber body. Malt aroma and slight floral scent. Tastes of a fruity-nut brown. Fruit finish. Very refreshing...

Slightly hazy red, no head. Sour brown aroma. Fruity berry taste - strawberry - slightly drying sour brown aspect. In fact very brown - woody and nutty.

Bottled. Thx rlgk. Dark redbrown. Small, off-white head. Fruity malty dark toffee-aroma. Sweet and malty flavour; chocolate, caramelle. Medium bitterness.
