Commercial Description:
Christoffel Robertus is a low-fermenting ruby-red beer, brewed in the Münchener-style. It is a malty, fresh beer with a light sweetness. The typical hopbitterness found in Blond, is very lightly present in Robertus. The use of an extensive amount of selected barley gives Robertus the special malty taste and aroma.

Pours a rich looking reddish brown colour with a lively tan head. The aromas are of thick malts, nutty, kind of sweet smelling as well. The was well balanced with sweet malts and bittering hops playing off each other quite well also noted was a slight sourness, nuttiness and brisk carbonation. A nice brew.

1 Oct 05 - Big malt hop and some vinuos/spicy clove aromas. Light brown-red colour, good yellow-brown head. Slight spiritous flavour, vinuos and malty flavour. Dry hop finish and a lingering light maltiness, but the mouthfeel could be a bit thicker.

Pours a clear, light brown body with ruby highlights. The head, intially tall and bubbly, soon transforms into a slender halo. The aroma is a mixture of caramel and butterscotch with a hint of raisins. Light-bodied and lively in the mouth, it presents a sweet malty flavor, caramel, toffee, and butterscotch. The fruit is gone, but a soft, mild bitterness takes its place. The finish is sweet with a touch of nutty bitterness. I could drink a lot of these in one sitting.

Bought this in a gift pack in Indianapolis may not have been in the best of shape. A nutty bready beer with balanced a restrained hop bitterness. I would like to have this in better shape some day. Page 122 of Michael Jackson’s Great Beer Guide only 426 out of 500 Classic Brews to go.

If this is a vienna it’s an absolute ball tearer for the style. Standard colour. Fruity nose with some darker malts lurking. Malts carry through to the palate nicely. Really does play above its weight for the style. (e2.60 @ Café Wildeman)

[Sampled at the outside fireplace in 2004.] Amber beer with fresh aroma. Flavor is lesshoppy and with the usually viennanotes of caramel, sweetmalts and fruits.

Hmm, my second Vienna. Dark amber colured beer, small off-white head. Very malty, sweet caramel aroma. Sweet, malty taste, some walnut too, falls flat, but then, a lingering mild)hopbitterness comes. Not very complex, or strong as the Blond, but nonetheless a nice beer.

35 cl Bottle: Pours a nice hazy amber with a thick tan head that shrinks initially but has some staying power. A malty plum/black cherry aroma. Fflavour is a bit thin with a sour finish. Toffee sweet notes to start with lively carbonation at the front. The alcohol taste is noticable but not overwhelming.
