Commercial Description:
Christoffel Robertus is a low-fermenting ruby-red beer, brewed in the Münchener-style. It is a malty, fresh beer with a light sweetness. The typical hopbitterness found in Blond, is very lightly present in Robertus. The use of an extensive amount of selected barley gives Robertus the special malty taste and aroma.

(Bottle 33 cl) Very pretty reddish amber with a beige head. Presumably clear and filtered but hides a surprise sediment. Lovely aromatic, almost perfumy. Roasted and caramel malts in the flavours and a promounced sweetnes balanced well by the bittering hops. This is a classy beer indeed. 200602

Bela cerveja! Final levemente amargo e tostado. Experimente, vale a pena!

Cloudy medium reddish brown. Some unfiltered sediment. Light beige head. Fresh grainy, grassy, toasty, malty aroma. Firm yet soft feel. Clean, complex flavour of nuts, fruit, toast, whole wheat bread. Dry, peppery finish. Good bitterness.

Came in a swing-top (always wondered what that was called) and poured a huge foamy head with good lacing into a dark amber colour. Aroma was moderately malty and same for the taste, i.e., malty but not overly so.

One of the highlights of the Upper Canadian beer calendar is the annual release of the Christmas gift packs every November. I make it a point to buy as many as I can, as there is no better way to build the glass collection and try some good oldies. I spent fifteen minutes trying to figure out why the Corona gift pack had glasses in it (how do you shove a lime wedge into a broad-rimmed glass? And what self-respecting Corona drinker would even use a glass? After all, using a glass is the beer drinking equivalent of flushing the toilet, and we all know Corona drinkers don’t do that every day...where was I? Oh yeah, my first gift pack this year was the Christoffel one, since you need to have the Blond fresh. But that also means I get to have a nice, fresh Robertus too! Luminous reddish-brown, cloudy Vienna lager; malty, a little alcohol showing as well in the nose and some toasted marshmallow. Smooth, malty palate with lots of Vienna malt and toffeeish notes. As far as Vienna lagers go, this is the antithesis of Eliot Ness, but they’re both among the top of the style.

Snappin-fresh B33cl bottle enjoyed at Castros in the Beach. WOW! Dense body and translucent dark color. Grape aroma with hints of yeast. Tastes of toffee malts and herbal honey and a bit of dark dry apricot, and nice tingle of hops. I thought it was Belgian in character. Exceptional.

Bottle. Pours a deep ruby red/brown, with a tight beige head. Nose is sweet malts, light grapes, a bit roasted. Taste is beautiful- medium sweet, caramel malt, and bitter hops at the end. Balanced.Very pleasing, just with enough spice to keep you involved.
