Commercial Description:
Christoffel Robertus is a low-fermenting ruby-red beer, brewed in the Münchener-style. It is a malty, fresh beer with a light sweetness. The typical hopbitterness found in Blond, is very lightly present in Robertus. The use of an extensive amount of selected barley gives Robertus the special malty taste and aroma.

Thick, creamy head. Very malty aroma. Mango, chocolate and caramel. Sweetish, malty taste with licorice and peach. Excellent beer. Bottle, sold as Biesbosch Bier. Probably the same beer as Robertus. Swing top bottle, brown color. Malty aroma with a hint of caramel. Malty, caramelly flavor with hints of pear drups. Flowery hops, with a hint of citrus in the finish. Almost full bodied. Well made dunkel. (7 3 7 3 13 = 3.3)

2004 bottle. Pours a caramel/amber body, with a light transluscence from the small amount of sediment in it. But a little weak and transparent after it settles. Rapidly disipating, light beige head. Aroma is lightly spicy, with some nut-brown characteristics (dry walnut-like flavors, with brown sugar and a bit of cola). Flavor is full of light toasted grains, sweet caramel and brassy hops bitterness. Ends with a good balance of sweet/bitter and gets a good lager yeast punch in. Terrifically quenching vienna here, as quenching as their pilsener with a little more oomph to it. I’m surprised to see the parity between the two, though I guess the fresh, spicy/herbal hops in the pils get a lot of high marks. No alcohol, no thinning, maybe a touch of metallic flavors or something dirty, but it’s faint. Body is medium, no chewiness.

Hazy brown wih red tint, nice foamy head. Has a roasted malt aroma, hint of hops. Very malty body, at times very sweet (caramel) and at others dark and toasted, nutty. Very drinkable and thoroughly enjoyable.

I'm not really familiar with Vienna style lagers, and so this was a treat. Beautiful creamy foam sits atop a hazy coppery chestnut body. Malty and fruity, but subtly so, with a lingering fresh palate and a touch of bitter at the very end. A little thin in the body but really, very nice.

330ml bottle from Trafalgar Wines, Brighton. Crystal clear russet colour until the yeast was poured in and made it cloudy russet. Lasting tight beige head. Very toasty, fruity malty aroma. Very toasty in mouth, richness and depth. Depth has a vinous nature to it and then this toasted breadiness takes over. A bit like strawberry jam on golden brown white toast but no butter. Hugely drinkable even in the bath, reading a book on Kent pub signs. Oh dear, I fear I may have lost some of my readership with that image.

A nice amber color with a full head. The aroma shows some strong floral and earthy musk scents. The taste was reminiscent of a nut brown ale. A great palate made this one an easy drinker.
