Commercial Description:
Christoffel Robertus is a low-fermenting ruby-red beer, brewed in the Münchener-style. It is a malty, fresh beer with a light sweetness. The typical hopbitterness found in Blond, is very lightly present in Robertus. The use of an extensive amount of selected barley gives Robertus the special malty taste and aroma.

Reddish brown, moderate head, decent lacing and retention. Aroma is grassy hops with notes of caramel and some darker fruits. Soft mouthfeel, very well balanced and enjoyable. May not have big flavors, but everything here is put together really well.

This beer packs quite the unassuming punch. I mean, you think you are going to get some blah kinda brown ale and it’s like a mini-barleywine style beer in a cool swing-top bottle. Aroma is sweet malts. Reminds me of the smell when you steep caramel grains. That sweet worty aroma. Same thing here. Appearance is toffee brown in color, with a smallish sized off-white head. Large bubbles cling to the sides of the glass for dear life, but subside to nothing more than a light scummy ring. Mouthfeel is medium-thick, with a smoothness I really liked. Flavors are sweet malts, some light sour action going on on the sides of the tongue, brown sugar and more malt. Lots and lots of malt in this one, but it’s nice. As I said, it’s like a mini-barleywine in some ways minus the hops and minus the alcohol.

This one poured with a pretty big head after opening the swing top bottle. Healthy dark amber color with an aroma that was yeasty and somewhat cherry like. Flavor was intersting, with the strong malty base complimented with a light lemon juice type flavor, biscuits, and finishing with a bitter touch. Spices came through, even somewhat of a cinammon flavor (odd, I know they didn’t add it). Mouthfeel was nicely bodied. Good stuff, but overpriced.

33cl Bottle at Café Gollem. Dark amber colour, creamy light beige head. Aroma of caramel, sweet malts, a hint of chocolate. Flavour is sweet, toasted malts, caramel, some nuttiness. Slightly dry bitter finish. Medium bodied, soft carbonation. Overall very German, and good.

Bottle. Beautiful red-brown with a large pillowy head. Sweet caramel-malt aroma, a little plummy fruit. Mostly caramel in this approachably sweet palate, maybe some stewed prunes. Nothing cloying-- very well-balanced. Excellent.

Pours deep amber into a lager glass. White micro head quickly recedes to hug rim. Sour pit fruit aromas. Smooth sweet and sour malt with a lasting chalk finish.
