Ernest (4169), Boulder, Colorado, USA Mar 23, 2008 Draught, BJs Boulder.
Head is initially average sized, frothy, light brown, mostly diminishing.
Body is medium to dark brown.
Aroma is moderately malty (toasted bread/grain, cookie, caramel), lightly to moderately yeasty (cobwebs), with light notes of banana, plum, clove, raisin, alcohol.
Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately bitter.
Medium to full body, watery/syrupy/velvety texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic.
Enjoyable, kinda weizenbock-ish (tart with banana/clove aromas). Another reason to love BJs Boulder...they get rare stuff like this from time to time.
hotstuff (3008), Indiana, USA Mar 19, 2008 Flip-top bottle. Mediium sized fizzy tan head that mostly diminished, no lacing, transparent, and an orange red hue. The nose was malty, sweet, caramel, and dark fruits. The flavor was malty, caramel, dark fruits, and hint of chocolate. Slightly tingly mouthfeel and light-medium in body. Quaffable, decent for the style, but there are much better to be had of this style IMO. porterhouse (876), Alna, Maine, USA Feb 23, 2008 (330 ml bottle from Downeast Beverage Co.) Pours auburn with one finger of biege head that recedes to a thin layer. Aroma of sweet maltiness - notes of brown sugar and candyish malt but pretty reserved. Mouthfeel fairly smooth, lightly sticky, very light prickliness. Light fine rings of broken weepy lacing. Tastes lightly sweet and malty with same notes as in aroma. Very light pinch of bitterness in finish. An OK but very lightweight doppel with almost no complexity. thedm (3405), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Feb 17, 2008 This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a medium sized head of foamy tan colored bubbles that were mostly lasting and left behind a slightly hazy typically carbonated brown colored body and a good lacing. The aroma was sweet with raisin and dark malt notes. The aroma made me sneeze. The mouth feel was weakly tingly at the start mediumly tingly at the finish. The flavor contained notes of sweet malt and dark malt. It was only mildly bock like. An OK brew just nothing special. NoiZe (746), Zeist, Netherlands Feb 10, 2008 Dark brown colored brew. Very nice bock, good spicy, sweet malty flavor. Also a bit liquorice in the taste. Nice.
