Commercial Description:
Although all beers at one time were dark, few were truly black. Schwarzbier has some resemblance to an Irish stout in that it combines snappy bitterness with dry, coffee like roast flavors on a light to medium-bodied frame. The main difference between other dark beers and the Schwarzbier, is that the Schwarzbier is lagered so it is round, clean, smooth, and finishes with a crisp bitterness similar to a Pilsner.

Draft at Chuckanut Brewery. Color true to style with that unique black semi-transparent hue that builds hope that this is something cleaner and smoother than a stout. And, not to be disappointed, because these boys know how to craft lagers like nobody else in this corner of the world. Clean, crisp, with finely balanced touch of dark roast on top of the rich continental malt base. Straight-forward, no gimmicks, very satisfying.

Deep, clear brown-black schwarz. Roasty, toasty, nutty nose. Again with the fine bubbles. Flavor is cola and earthy malt, hazelnuts and mild coffee finish. Medium body and velvet mouthfeel. Very good but very subtle. This brewery really stays true to the restrained but crisp and smooth German roots of its beers.

draft at brouwers. pours a nearly true black with a beautiful moustache-making disc of creamy dark tan mousse. roast, cola, and a little bit of campfire on the nose. beautiful creamy body with woolly carb. nice dark roasty flavor hits you right away. some brazil nuts, cola, smoky campfire, and then nice resiny bitterness on the finish. just complex enough and just sessionable enough. awesome.

Wow another fine offering from these guys. Pours dark brown with a nice fluffy head. THe aroma is of roasted malt with some underlying dark sweetness and some grassy earthy hops. THe flavor is very consistent with the nose as the roast and mild dark sweetness work with the grass and earthy bitterness to create a fine quaffable beer. The finish is crisp and it is incredibly smooth and easy to drink.

Deep chestnut browth with this puddle of creamed head. Medium coffee roasted aroma with some coffee bean bitterness. Medium to light-bodied. Mildly malty with some bitter coffee roast and a dank, beery finish. Coffee ground bite finish. Ok.
