Blackish brown pour. Nitro head. Nitro taste and aromas. Silky nose...at first. slightly sweet with a pungent tart sourness. This then turns into nothing but water. Nothing but water. Nothing else. Chalkiness. Flavors are immediately tart and sour, not much sweetness, maybe some in a cane sugar sort of way but nothing in the way of roasty sweetness. Dry chalkiness and then water. Silky again and then nothing but water. Pretty thin beer.Looks great though.

big thanks to Connie and Michelle for introducing me to this place - - it’s a real speakeasy in Greenwich Village from the prohibition era - there’s not even a sign in front of the bar!! black opaque body, dark tan thin & short foamy head. edges are lighter brown in color. aroma is roasted malt and a little nutty, flavor is light but not too watery. starts roasted malt but has some caramel malt in the middle, then gets roasty again in the finish.

Draught, at the Chumley’s, NY.
A secret little nook that Austinpowers showed me. Black with a good tan/brown head. Lovely dark aniseed aroma with good length. Not dry but equally not creamy, wet or insipid either. I good drop this. In fact on New Years day this was the preferred beer of choice to smooth away the previous pain.

After drinking a pint of this heavy brew, what felt like iron was my stomach when it came time to actually stand up and search for the door of this cramped, West Village bar-with-no-sign before bars with no signs became trendy in Manhattan. The stout is quite thick and somewhat roasty in a chocolate malt way and you've got to respect Chelsea Brewing, which contract brews all of Chumley's beers, for not skimping on the ingredients with this stout.
