Commercial Description:
This American style brown ale is a great example that hops are not the only wonderful flavor in beer. Bring in the malt. Our Brown Ale has roasted overtones and a caramel rich body. But don’t assume this beer doesn’t contain any hops. Although not a dominant flavor, the hops very carefully round out this beer. Also, notice the color, our Bell Tower Brown Ale has a beautiful dark ruby hue which is perfect for this style.

Poured a clear dark amber color with slight fizzy head. Aroma was pretty plain though a bit sweet and cola like. Flavor is malty, molases, and a tad bit of nut undertone. Overall, not bad, but not great. Would skip in the future.

From a growler purchased on 10.19.08. The price was right, $10.73 including all taxes. Aroma is smoke, molasses, some faint spicing. Flavor is smoky with anise and thin malt body with balanced hops bitterness and something else I can’t put my finger on. I think that this beer is pretty refreshing with a nostalgic feel. I love cheapdark’s description, kind of sums up this nostalgic autumn feeling: "Reminds me of a candy I had as a child, bought it at Mary’s on Monaca road."

Oh yes oh yes oh yes, just had it today on tap at the works...... Looks like root beer with a tea froth head. Interesting aroma like no other and this aroma carries on thru to the flavor. Woodsy and damp if you know what I mean, like waking up on a cold autum night in a damp forrest. Quite indescribable. Reminds me of a candy I had as a child, bought it at Mary’s on Monaca road. Woody character. Interestingly offensive without being over the top. Not bad for a different kind of brew. Bitterness which lasts for a while on the finish. Way too expensive, $3 for a 4 oz sample. Chew on some dead damp branches which you grab on yer way thru the grove.

On-Tap @ Church Brew Works

Poured medium brown. Frothy, creamy off-white head. Aroma of faint malts. Flavor very roasty, smokey malts. Sweet caramel aftertones. There were flavors present that I couldn’t figure out what they were. Complex brew. Medium bodied. Good carbonation, fizzy, tingly, mouthfeel.

Crystal clear, dark caramel ale with a small, quickly diminishing head. No lacing. Funky aroma is a mix of rootbeer, ginger ale, cola and chocolate. The flavor pretty much matches the aroma. Kind of funky, but not totally unpleasant. Medium-bodied with a silky mouthfeel and pillow-soft carbonation. Lengthy, lightly pungent, chocolatey finish.

Dull brown rootbeer clear color, no head. Light malt character with some tanginess, not a lot of hops. Pretty watery and unremarkable, though not the worst brown ale I’ve had.
