TheCaptain (526), Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 21, 2009 On tap in the Church - Dark caramel, clear with thin white head and some lacing. An herb/pepper ale with malts and grains. Worth a try! BeerGestapo (725), Windsor, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 17, 2009 Brewed in the USA..... On tap at the Brew Works !!! Pours a lite amber color with a thin white head. Aroma of malts, pepper and floral notes. The taste is much of the same with the addition of orange peels. Mouthfeel is a bit strange at first, with some lingering pepper notes at the finish. Pretty interesting !! JoeMurphy (30), Ohio, USA Jul 12, 2009 Waitress called it "Black and Gold" (for Pittsburgh), although the board said "Black Gold." Certainly an interesting beer. Honestly, I forgot that the waitress had said it was brewed with black pepper, so I spent a long time trying to figure out which hop variety they were using so much of. It was well balanced - not like most of the complaints I’ve heard about hot pepper beers - with a lingering pepperyness. Basically, I’m happy I tried one, but switched to the regular pale ale for my second beer. keepersj12 (774), Sicklerville, New Jersey, USA Jun 23, 2009 Very nice. The pepper isn’t noticed until the end and aftertaste. Amber with a good head. Not a lot of aroma. Flavor is hoppy with the pepper coming on strong late. Good stuff. zebracakes (1214), Washington DC, USA Feb 2, 2007 On tap at the Church. Peach caramel salmon color. Aroma is citrus, floral, pineapple. Flavor is grass, citrus, floral.
