Commercial Description:
To give this beer a wonderful roasted flavor, we added unmalted, very darkly roasted barley. The roasted barley is mixed with a generous portion of chocolate colored malt giving the Blast Furnace Stout a beautiful ruby hue. We used our finest hops unsparingly to create a delicately balanced bitterness with a rich roastiness and fresh hop aroma. The East Kent Goldings hops were added with heavy hands at two different times. This unbridled addition grants a full hop flavor to our heavenly drink.

Dark brown body, creamy nitro tan head. Slightly roasty winey merlot-like taste. Some chocolate for sweetness. Chocolate is roasty. Okay... interesting with the tanniny wine in there.

Growler, from brewpub, 03/10/07. Pours a flat black colored body under a thin large bubbled brown head that faded quickly. Aroma is very roasty with lots of coffee, some licorice, and a little burnt malt. Flavor is dry nutty and roasted malt with the coffee and licorice coming out on the dry lightly bitter finish. The hops have a pretty substantial impact througout but still just an accent to the malt. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and slightly oily with light soft carbonation. This was a pretty decent Stout. Nice and roasty without being watery at any point. Not a chore to drink a whole growler of this one.

On tap at CBW, dark black color, a creamy tan-colored head, leaving laces, black roasted malt nose, with a burnt toast note, faint bitter dark chocolate, dark coffee beans roastiness, molasses, with a vanilla-mochaish spiciness in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a roasty malty character, with a faint mochaish note, hint of dark coffee beans roastiness, dark chocolatey accent, leading towards a malt roastiness, and a floral hop bitterness finish.

On tap @ the Church Brew Works. Dark Brown-black with tan head. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, and molasses. Flavor is chocolate, caramel, coffee, and malt. Smooth and delicious, but to me this is a sweet stout.

Sample at the brewpub. Pours pitch black with a wispy tan head and thin spotty lacing. Pleasant aroma of coffee and malt. Smooth and rich mouthfeel with toasted malt, coffee and chocolate flavors. The finish is bittersweet chocolate with a lingering touch of hops afterward. Solid all around.

Light roasted malt, mild smokiness and bit of coffee. Very mild hops in the nose. A tad chocolatey but not a strong aroma. Dark brown black clear with no head. Thin watery body with mild to medium carbonation. Mild sweet roasty notes. Light grains. Some chocolate. No real bitterness or dryness, with smooth sweet finish. Has a bit of vanilla. An OK stout, but again I think this is aimed at people used to IC Light or something.

Pruney, dark malt aroma. Nice looking opaque brown. Moderately bitter. Mouthy, with an odd frothiness. Dry Fairly quick finish. Not acidic or burnt tasting. Somewhwat simplistic, but solid.
