zach8270 (2051), Henrietta, New York, USA Oct 9, 2009 (bottle - 750 ml) Dark ruby red pour with a thick off-white head. Aroma is sweet but rather sour with a lot of cherries and malt. Flavor is the complete opposite. Lots of cherry sweetness with a ton of sweet malts. Smooth and creamy throughout and hides the alcohol well. TheCaptain (526), Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 21, 2009 Bottle opened at the Church Brew Works, thanks for sharing your bounty Jodi! Poured a hazy dark caramel orange with good head and lacing. Light cherry, hops and malts on the nose. Smooth on the palate with dark fruits and a bit of season, some alcohol notes- good flavor. BeerGestapo (725), Windsor, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 17, 2009 Brewed in the USA..... Courtesy of Jody, thanks !!! Pours a brownish amber color with a medium off white foamy head. Aroma of cherries, malts, pepper and alcohol. The taste is of dark fruits, alcohol, cherries, malts and a hint of pepper. The mouthfeel was medium in body with some nice carbonation and lingering dryness at the finish. Overall, Pretty interesting stuff. fonefan (10868), VestJylland, Denmark Jul 9, 2009 Bottle 75cl. @ Papsoes blindtasting. [ Bottle #7. ] Light unclear medium orange amber color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, caramel, fruity, overriped fruit, light to moderate yeasty, alcohol. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, and a acrid peppery alcohol finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft, finish feel is light to moderate alcohlic. I poured the brew into a challis it produced a finger worth of off white head that trailed of to a thin lace. The body was a murky caramel brown color.
Of course the aroma of cherries is there. You also get some heat from the alcohol and some funk from the Belgian yeast. The flavor was a tad bitterer than I would expect and the alcohol did show itself. Some sour cherries and dark fruits arise in the flavor profile as well. The mouthfeel is full with light carbonation
This one is a one and done for me. I have had better blends of this kind out there. The drinkability was ok but the glass was quite enough for one sitting
KimJohansen (6645), Copenhagen V, Denmark Jun 8, 2009 Unclear orange with a medium beige head. Sweet yeasty aroma toasted malt and caramel notes. Flavour was sweet yeasty with roasted malt, caramel, yeast and ripe fruits. Finished sweet. beastiefan2k (1590), Lawrence (formely NYC), Kansas, USA May 27, 2009 I had this once before, I think CaptainCougar shared it at a gathering. I wasn’t a fan then but thought I would give it another go around at the brewpub. 750mL split between 3 people. The pour is completely murky, thick, cannot see into it at all. The color is orange-copper. There are some small carbonation bubbles that pop up at the sides of the glass. Aroma is strong, sweet, cherry, and alcohol... surprised? It is strong and out of control. The cherry is there and it works decently. Taste has a lot more alcohol, they even tingle the lips a little bit. Alcoholic biscuit bread throughout, much less cherry comes trough, just a sweetness. Hot mess as I first thought. Ibrew2or3 (2714), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA May 25, 2009 Courtesy of Beerman6686. Pours hazy deep rose with thin white head. The aroma is moderate in strength and carries notes of prunes, cherries and black pepper. There’s also a mild under current of sour tartness. The taste is prune, cherry and a moderate level of black pepper. A nice smooth sweetness seems to run from front to back and balancing the peppery-ness and dark cherry fruitiness.
