boboski (1095), USA Jan 9, 2008 Updated: Jan 17, 2008 This looks beautiful! A gentle pour releases a flume of carbonation that rigidly supports a super-creamy light biege/cream head that is both thick and mostly stationary. The body is cloudy as all get-out, orange amber with red highlighting. Light but pretty lacing too. cherries share the centerpiece of the aroma with candi sugar, caramel and plenty of yeast. The nose is sweet and of medium strength. Breadiness is split amicably by potent but never-overwhelming alcohol. I somewhat expected cherries to be more of a dominant force, but this way is better - no apparent medicinal traits and the interesting yeast character shines easily. Yogurt notes join citrus fruit esters at the culmination of each inhalation. This seems simplistic under the surface but it’s fun thus far. Cherries play a stronger role in a more alcoholic and focused flavor. Yeastiness is still fruity and has a fresh quality. Sweetness is medium-high and well-integrated, acidity mild, bitterness low. The mouthfeel is creamy, soft, smooth and lightly but adequateIy carbonated. The finish is sugary but not too sweet, pleasing and finely acidic. I don’t think this recipe is a knockout, nor is the apparent quality of the ingredients, but the craftsmanship is there and the resulting whole of this experience is excellent, one to revisit repeatedly and observe the inevitable flavor development.
kmweaver (1948), Takoma Park, Maryland, USA Aug 19, 2008 750mL bottle. Pours a clear, slightly oily orange-amber color; head quickly fades to approximately nothing; thin perimeter of off-white bubbles left. Basic cherry cough syrup, Belgian sugar, and sweet dried cherries in the aroma; not sticky, but very certainly sweet; basic fruit character. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: relaxed amounts of carbonation; lots of dried red fruits and cherries, caramel, and sweet Belgian sugars; very much on the sweet side without being sticky; singular malt and fruit core overall, and kind of disappointing complexity for the amount of alcohol in here. Basic cherry character. Lengthy finish: caramel, red fruits, and Belgian sugar; some toasty malts and breadiness at the far end. WeeHeavySD (1699), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA Jun 25, 2008 750 via trade with Adrian910ss I believe. Shared with my gf Cyn. To end a night. Caged and harcore plastic corked that was a bitch and a hurt hand of hell to get off. Pours orange amber with a 1 finger tan head. Nose is sweet and full of cherries. Taste is sweet and full of cherries and some nice deep fruit. Tasty. Rciesla (712), Brick City, New Jersey, USA Jun 15, 2008 Bottle. Thanks to Vferg for sharing this. Also had at capones on draft. Pours a dark ruby body with a white head. Aroma is malty with sweet cherries, spices, and some wood character. The etoh is noticable and slightly more pronounced from the cherries. A solid beer through and throughout. jcwattsrugger (3793), Florida and, New Jersey, USA Jun 7, 2008 750ml bottle @Hoboken#1-pours a white ring for a head and hazy amber color. Aroma is cherry/wood/grainy/spicy. Taste is cherry/wood/grainy/spicy, smoother than expected from the aroma.
