ravidesai (915), Bombay, India Nov 13, 2002 re-rate hazy orange. bubbly head. citrus and spice aroma. lots of honey sweetness and a fruity melon taste. soft and a touch syrupy but not cloying. yeasty finish moxed with a floral citric hop note. kmweaver (1948), Takoma Park, Maryland, USA May 15, 2008 750mL bottle, 2006 vintage, courtesy of pjweaver (my bro!). Thanks, Phil! Despite Phil’s encouraging words, I wasn’t expecting a ton out of this beer... I’m a fool. Pours a bold, clear tarnished-orange / copper color; fizzy off-white head with medium-bubbled lacing. Honey, pan-fried bananas, brown sugar and a very pleasant yeast character in the aroma; definitely odd, and definitely good; minimal oxidation, with just a touch of caramel. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: loads of chewy bananas, honey graham crackers and sweet honey, a touch of cloves to balance things out (hardly cloying); just from the high carbonation and touch of alcohol showing (though minimal), this seems like it would have been a bit off-putting in its early years; after 7+ years of age behind it, there’s nothing off-putting about it: drinkable, chewy maltiness without residual sugar or cloying sweetness; pleasantly drinkable and very generous beer; a bit of citrus and lime-infused hops showing through still. Medium finish: bread, doughiness, honey, and some fried bananas; just a touch of sweetness left at the end. DougShoemaker (2560), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jul 13, 2006 Well this was served at Jon Graham’s place from a 5 litre keg, and it also led us to believe it was a Millenium beer. Regardless.... Heavy malt and lot’s of yeast in the aroma, hazy golden, pours a medium sized white head, bonus point for the keg. Taste is malt, a tiny bit of alcohol, yeast and lemon. Medium to full bodied, after the third or fourth glass, it seemed to get a little fuller, very smooth drinking beer. Thanks so much for sharing Jeremy, and Many Thanks to Jon and Tia for a sensational evening! Drew (2375), Kent, Ohio, USA Dec 18, 2004 Bottled in 2000, purchased on 11/11/2004. It’s a good thing that they held on to it and aged it - I wouldn’t have had the patience. Time in the cellar really paid off - this has a huge thick malty smooth palate - it just coats the mouth with sweet fruits and spices and still manages to stay dry at the finish. Bright hazy golden body, huge head, great lacing. Aroma is yeasty sweet fruits. crizay (1070), Brook Park (was Tampa,FL), Ohio, USA Dec 31, 2007 750. Hazy golden pour, medium white head that stays big and leaves lots of lacing. Aroma is spicy belgian yeast but not overpowering, grassy, honey but the yeast dominates. Flavor is very balanced, belgian yeast upfront but again just enough not too much, banana, honey, clove. A touch of tartness to it with the spicy yeast staying in the aftertaste. Some grassy notes and more honey as it warms and even a touch of bubblegum. Full chewy mouthfeel and lots of lively carbonation perfect for the style. I like how the yeast doesn’t completely take over this beer and is just enough on everything, I think this is the best tripel I’ve had it’s just smooth and balanced.
