zebracakes (1214), Washington DC, USA Nov 27, 2007 On tap at CBW 11.27.07. Dark caramel brown, tan head. Aroma is caramel, malt, tangy fruit. Flavor is the same with cookie dough, grass, and metal (tin). Well rounded and festive. SB (317), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 25, 2006 On Tap@ Church Brew, Served in 10oz. stem glass.
Poured very dark, with a thin cream colored head. Fast dissipating, but stayed present around the edges. (Second one had a huge, creamy, head that laced the glass). Aroma not present until it warmed up, which then I picked up Vanilla and malt tones. Flavor was sweet at first. I got banana undertones, with vanilla hints and malts. Slightly bitter as it warmed up toward the end. Cola like mouthfeel. Medium bodied. Overall pretty good. Nejhleader (927), Lemoyne, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 7, 2006 Very nice looking, dark brown almost maroon colour. Very smooth drink, but was lacking any defining taste. Maybe had a roast hint, no detection of hops like the description said. Fairly average overall.l FROTHINGSLOSH (1973), GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 20, 2005 Updated: Jun 24, 2006Sampled on draft at the brewery this beer poured a black color with a small white-tan head. The aroma was sweet molasses and nutty malt. The mouthfeel is thick. The flavor is sweet and has a strong roasted malt presence and a decent hop profile. The malt turns sour and bitter on the finish. Some bitter chocolate come out as it warms. michael-pollack (2639), King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 9, 2005 Draught @ Brewery: Fits commecial descroption to a T. Smelled malty and toasted. Dark brown, clear. Small, diminishing, creamy, tan head. Small lacing. Tasted malty, but well balanced. No hop flavors at all. Pretty easy to drink. A good brew, but too malty for this hophead. boto (1325), Granby, Connecticut, USA Apr 8, 2005 Draught @ Church Brew: Served in a 10oz. stem glass. It poured an opaque brown with hints of ruby. There was a hint of a tan head. This would have been better if I hadn’t had to let it warm up a bit. It was about ice cold when served, and that hid the flavor and aroma. After a short warming, The flavor and aroma came out. The aroma was still a hair weak for what I have would expected, but it was still nice. There were notes of cherries, plums, caramel to the beer. The taste had caramel and cherry flavors. Very Good! JCW (1262), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Aug 8, 2004 Hand bottled by TAR - many thanks Jeff. Opaque dark brown, with a touch of red. Pours with a frothy tan head that quicky dissipates. Aroma is sweet like prunes, carmel with a bit of coffee. Robust fruity sweet flavor. Sweet toffeeish finish - a fine beer. BBB63 (4213), La Porte, Indiana, USA Jun 20, 2004 Hand bottled by Jeff (aka TAR), thanks buddy! The brew has a deep brown hue with a creamy tan head, very good lace, and an oily film. The aroma has notes of roasted dark malts, caramel, licorice, prune, plum, light walnut, aromatic hops, and earthy yeast esters. The taste starts with a crisp and sharp bitterness. This is quickly followed by a roasty and chocolate malt tone which lingers forever. There is a fruity (prune mostly) , hint of coffee, and mild hop bitterness on the finish. Wonderfully complex flavors. The feel is medium to full-bodied with a oily and sticky nature. Crisp and mildly biting on the finish (mostly from the alcohol). A classy brew from a unique brewery. I like it and would say it is a must find.
