Flavour was of caramel, burnt nuts and was smokey at first and then it got really sweet. It was an interesting beer. JCB (1796), Durham, North Carolina, USA

Though I’m not the hugest fan of smoked beers, I was very much looking forward to trying this one. Nice amber color with a modest head, this one combines an intense malty presence with some slightly sour undertones at the finish. Pretty mellow compared to a lot of rauchbiers I’ve had, and they do an admirable job trying to balance the flavors, but not a home run. rudolf (1787), Buffalo, New York, USA

Peatey nose gives way to some sweetness. Nutty, smoky, peaty flavor. Some wine in the finish. A bit more body would be an improvement 11026 (1772), Alabama, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 8, 2005 Bottle courtesy of DougShoemaker. Chestnut brown color. Off-white to tan head, some lacing. Slight smoke aroma with malt in aroma. Medium bodied. Decent malt backbone with noticeable smoke flavor. The smoke lingers in the finish. Decent, probably better served with cooked flesh than served alone. ross (1709), weddington, South Carolina, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | May 22, 2006 Bottle from Paul (blankboy) Thanks! Pours kind of dark brown color with some bubbles going through, smells smokey, and similar to stale water. Taste is smokey, oily, and rather unpleasnt. I dont like it when people say "I dont usually like this style so heres my rating of .6" so I will not do that. I am not a fan of smoked beers at all, and the more I try, the less I like them. However, I will rate this based on what I think a smoked beer should be rated like. Thanks..but no thanks. Ill stick to my stouts and IPAs. Possibly the only style of beer I cannot come around to appreciating, to those that can - cheers! MrManning (1659), London, Ontario, Canada

Aroma is mildly smokey and roasted malt. Taste is almost hickory like with some sweetness as well. A slight bitterness in the aftertaste as well. I am not too familiar with smoked beers, but am looking forward to trying more. Styles (1653), Lincoln Park, Michigan, USA
