2009-10-31. Hazy dark brown body, headless. 3+ Powerful peat and iodine scotch aroma, alcoholic. Flavour is similar, strong smokey peat character, mild malt core can not really compete. Average palate is smooth. I found it pretty harsh as I do not care much for scotch, smoke, or peat. That said, if you are a scotch lover it is probably right up your alley as it has lots of all those things. Cool experiment, very much not to my own tastes. Cask at Volo Cask Days 2009

Cask. At Volo Cask Days 2009. Nearly opaque clear ruby-black with a small frothy beige head. Mild deep roast aroma, caramel sweetness, with a solid overlay of iodine, hardwood smoke, sulfur and oak - not overpowering. The taste follows, a bit sweeter than the aroma, and the Islay character fades quickly, leaving a simple, appealing and not overly sweet scotch ale behind. Slick, somewhat astringent (that’s the oak for you) mouthfeel, a bit burnt and ashy in the aftertaste - pretty solid BA offering, not too much oak or booze.

On cask @ Volo cask days: Appearance: Dark purple/brown with a small white head. Aroma: Super smoky, bacon, malt, coal and peat. Flavour: Smoke, like bbq rinse water - charcoal, peat - delicious!

[2566-20091031] Cask. Aroma is a cross between smoky Pine-Sol cleaner and brick paints. Hazy, dark brown body with a quick off-white bubbly head. Smoky watery evergreen flavour is a little earthy. Medium body. Not a fan, interesting to try though.

Aroma of smoke, lots of peat, and whiskey dryness. The flavor is quite astringent, and dry. Lots of smoke, and peat. This is way too scotchey, and i’m not sure i could drink a full glass of this. But maybe someone who loves scotch might enjoy it.

Volo Cask Days 2009.Had samples on two days here. It is hit and miss with this brewery. Unfortunately, a miss. The smell I found boozy, some smoke, wood chips. The taste was horrid, like licking wood on a tree and I needed to pour out. Mouthfeel was a little burning to me. An attempt to put some whiskey taste in the scotch, it was a bit peaty. Perhaps if it was more of a smooth scotch, with whiskey.
