Commercial Description:
Made from McIntosh apples. Dry cider aged in oak barrels for two years. Ancestral artisan quality with a tang of the Rougemont soil, enriched by the Jodoin family’s closely-guarded secrets. Fresh and harmonious aroma of apples with a long finish. A marvelous companion for strong cheese, such as Bleu. Excellent with pork, poultry, fish, and cold cuts. Very pleasant aperitif.

Courtesy TheCheeseMan. Very light almost clear pour, no head. Light pear notes, mild malic acidity on aroma. Slightly sweet taste, but dry on the finish. Very light apple notes overall, but nice.

Tasting at Backus’ Backyard Bash. Thanks to the Cheeseman for the taste! Clears pale yellow pour. Nice dry apple and pear aroma. Slightly tangy apple, pear and just a touch of brown sugar. Very smooth and delicious, but seemed to be missing something.

Courtesy TheCheeseMan. Pours a crystal clear, light straw color. A tiny, bubbly edge forms from a vigorous pour, with no other signs of carbonation chowing. Thin, runny legs coat the sides of the glass when swirled. Delicate aromas of fresh, crisp green apples and pears show alongside vanilla laden oak. Flavors follow suit, primarily showing that classic marriage between apple and oak. Medium bodied and slick, with zero carbonation. I was surprised to learn that this one weighed in at 12%, because I didn’t get an heat at all. Dangerously drinkable, but a bit underwhelming overall.

Sampled @ Backus’s Backdoor Bash.Courtesy of the Cheeseman.Poured a beautiful yellow, almost clear color with a nice aroma of apples stemming from it.The flavor was a nice mix of tartness, yet sweet apples. Not much more than that.A decent cider.

Bottle… Backus’s Backdoor Bash ‘08... Almost colorless with a millipede’s worth of terrific legs. Sweet, fresh apples, vanilla and wood meld to paint the aroma. Light-bodied and just a hint oily with no carbonation. Stale, acidic, boozy and bitter. Finishes dry. Thanks go out to TheCheeseMan for sharing the bottle!
