Commercial Description:
Big Sound Scotch Ale is dedicated to our good buddy Gino, the most punk rock bagpiper you’ll ever meet, and the rest of the men and women of Tampa Bay Pipes and Drums. Brown in color, Big Sound has huge notes of dark sweet toffee with underlying mild notes of coffee in the aroma. The flavor starts with a slight note of cherry and then opens into a Goliath of a malt character with notes of dark sweet toffee, slight hints of coffee and mild notes of toasted bread in the finish. Big Sound Scotch Ale pairs well with Haggis, Highland Games, Huge Heads and Enormous Pillows and of course Bagpipe music.

(PPSG09, 22oz bottle) Murky brown body topped by small tan head. Aroma is moderately sweet, caramel/toffee, light smoke. Taste is moderately sweet, caramel, some toffee, smoke/peat. Some stickiness, medium-full body.

I believe this was poured from a growler: Murky brown with a tan head. Chewy aroma- peat, caramel, dark fruits- creamy body. Rich yet balanced flavor of big caramel, vanilla notes, light peat, prune and other various dark fruits. Earthy on the back. A nice Scotch Ale.

Thanks to juiceisloose for this one - shared at Peter’s NY gathering - a very turbid pour - quite sweet, even for a scotch ale, but that is really my only complaint - low carbonation, with a smooth mouthfeel - a lot of caramel, toffee, and plum, on top of a soft peaty and smoky character - a bit of roasted nuts and cherries - quite earthy, but the smoke phenols take a back seat to the sweetness.

Rich scotch-amber with tanned, creme brulee foam head. Musky bouquet of malt and candi malt. Buffeted veins of fruitiness, some prune, caramel, and cherry chocolate. Rich, velvey mouthfeel. Full-bodied. Candi-malt at the front of the palate. A wave of varied caramel malts with some specks of cherry chocolate glides over the taste buds. Top-notch Scotch ale.

PPRBSG. My first Cigar City. Dark brune body with a tan head. Chewy scotch notes light smoke and caramel with some berry sweetness. Chewy smooth caramel with a light peat and chewy fruit. I am not a scotch ale fan but this is fantastic for what it is, or at least i thought so.

750, thanks, Scrizzz! Pours hazy brown with a lacy beige head. Sweet caramel aroma with a hint of smoke. Medium-light body and carbonation. Caramel and toast taste. A bit hoppier on the finish than I like for this style. Probably worth keeping around for a couple of years until the hops drop out.

750, capped. Interesting. Thanks, Scrizzz! Pours an opaque dark brown with rubied highlights in the corners. Dense, creamy tan layer of foam on top. Big black pepper nose, dark bread toast there as well. Creamy medium body. Prickly carb. Long roasty finish. Really nice stuff.
