Commercial Description:
Big Sound Scotch Ale is dedicated to our good buddy Gino, the most punk rock bagpiper you’ll ever meet, and the rest of the men and women of Tampa Bay Pipes and Drums. Brown in color, Big Sound has huge notes of dark sweet toffee with underlying mild notes of coffee in the aroma. The flavor starts with a slight note of cherry and then opens into a Goliath of a malt character with notes of dark sweet toffee, slight hints of coffee and mild notes of toasted bread in the finish. Big Sound Scotch Ale pairs well with Haggis, Highland Games, Huge Heads and Enormous Pillows and of course Bagpipe music.

750 ml bottle thanks to Dave! Pours a dark brown color with a huge thick beige head. The aroma is quintessentially a scotch ale; loads of rich fruity malts, some nutty, smoky and toasted notes as well. The flavor was similar; a rich malty flavor with undertones of fruit and smoke. An excellent mouthfeel. A dangerous beer because though it is almost 9% it is very smooth. Nice.

Brown amber color with a small, off white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of caramel malts, peat, nuts, roast, and some cocoa. Taste of caramel malts, nuts, wood, peat smoke, roast, and light alcohol and sweet finish.

750ml bottle acquired in trade with daknole (thanks!). Poured a deeper amberish/brown color with a small sized off white head. Aromas of earthiness, toffee, roast, and some dark fruits. Tastes of lighter earthiness, dark fruits, chocolate, and smoke.

My Bottom Line:
Peated smoke lengths diversify this Scotch Ale’s roasted and toasted cereals, while subtle cherry esters and peppery hops create complexity.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A creamy veil of foam covers the cloudy dark brown red.
-Alcohol is very well hidden.
-This is not too sweet, which is appreciated.
-The nose is friendly, yet could be more inviting considering the wealth of the flavor profile.

Bottle.

750 mL from Total Wine in Tampa, FL. Pours an opaque mahogany with a one finger, beautiful tan head that has excellent retention and leaves some fairly good lacing. Aroma is black cherry soda, spicy bourbon, and oak. Taste is black cherry soda, burnt sugar, creme brulee perhaps, spicy bourbon, and ends with some cardboardy bitterness. Full and creamy on the palate. 8.5% is well hidden. Can’t wait to bust out my BA version...
