Commercial Description:
Big Sound Scotch Ale is dedicated to our good buddy Gino, the most punk rock bagpiper you’ll ever meet, and the rest of the men and women of Tampa Bay Pipes and Drums. Brown in color, Big Sound has huge notes of dark sweet toffee with underlying mild notes of coffee in the aroma. The flavor starts with a slight note of cherry and then opens into a Goliath of a malt character with notes of dark sweet toffee, slight hints of coffee and mild notes of toasted bread in the finish. Big Sound Scotch Ale pairs well with Haggis, Highland Games, Huge Heads and Enormous Pillows and of course Bagpipe music.

Deep brown color and pours with a thick tan head. Another Cigar City beer that looks very inviting. Smokey aroma with notes of charcoal, chocolate, tobacco and coffee. Rich malty flavor showing caramel, toffee, a lot of rasin, some roasty spiciness, and finishes with chocolate. Very drinkable. A little too sweet and sticky but it’s a mild complaint. Not my favorite offering from Cigar City but still a very good beer.

Stone Sourfest wouldn’t have been the same without Seaoflament. Thanks man. Nose is big malt and vanilla. Smooth. Taste is great. One big happy barleywine. All the big and small details I love in a great b-wine were there. Great.

(750ml bottle, courtesy of hopscotch – he sent this to me out of the blue; have had a couple other samples at various tasting in recent weeks as well) Pours a brown body with a moderate beige head. Aroma of mustiness, peat, toffee, caramel, and earth. Flavor of roasted malt, caramel, peat/smoke, oak, earth, and subtle coffee beans with a dry finish. Thanks Eric and the other fine Ratebeerians and BAs that have shared!

Bottle from the generous dchmela. Thanks, Dave! Beautiful hazy dark brown pour. Maybe a hint of red in the hue. Nice big thick beige head. Aroma is malty, fruity, and nutty. Some definite butterscotch, and not like oxidation. Some peat and mild smoke. Tastes a little less complex and more simply sweet, but still a fine beer. Great mouthfeel.

Multiple samples thanks to JohnC and seaoflament. Pours with a small, tan head over a murky brown body. Aroma of leather, dark fruits, peat and pear. Taste is a bit of wet dog, caramel, scotch, chocolate and dark fruits. Light bubbles.

Thanks to Dan and Matt for bottles. Pours dark brown with a good head. Aroma is sweet caramel and toffee. Flavor is caramel and brown sugar with a bunch of carbonation. I thought this was a bit too sweet and it was tough to finish the bottle. I like less sweet and more dry finish.
