Commercial Description:
Big Sound Scotch Ale is dedicated to our good buddy Gino, the most punk rock bagpiper you’ll ever meet, and the rest of the men and women of Tampa Bay Pipes and Drums. Brown in color, Big Sound has huge notes of dark sweet toffee with underlying mild notes of coffee in the aroma. The flavor starts with a slight note of cherry and then opens into a Goliath of a malt character with notes of dark sweet toffee, slight hints of coffee and mild notes of toasted bread in the finish. Big Sound Scotch Ale pairs well with Haggis, Highland Games, Huge Heads and Enormous Pillows and of course Bagpipe music.

Murky chestnut with a light head. Earthy nose is toffee and caramel richness. Soft, full, rich mouthfeel. Soft, chewy toffee notes, very sweet and lush. Hints of peat and wood. Well-balanced.

(750ml bottle, courtesy of hopscotch – he sent this to me out of the blue; have had a couple other samples at various tasting in recent weeks as well) Pours a brown body with a moderate beige head. Aroma of mustiness, peat, toffee, caramel, and earth. Flavor of roasted malt, caramel, peat/smoke, oak, earth, and subtle coffee beans with a dry finish. Thanks Eric and the other fine Ratebeerians and BAs that have shared!

(Rating #5000) Bottle…This beer rocks!... Pours too dark and murky to see through – I’d say burnt caramel with a small, creamy, off-white head. Good retention. The aroma is a luxurious, odd mix of singed caramel, smoke, tobacco and a gob of charred marshmallow. Tough to figure out, but very nice. Full-bodied with a creamy/sticky mouthfeel and ticklish carbonation. The flavor is a swirl of all things sweet, caramelized, singed and toasted – espresso, chocolate, caramel and toffee. Finishes sweet and rich and leaves me wanting to pop the top on another bottle immediately. Quickly! I’m hooked and need my next fix.

750ml bottle: Pours a transparent dark amber mahogany with a thin, wispy-lacing light tan head. Aroma of rich, sweet dark caramel malts with a touch of smoky peat and dark chocolate. Starts with good fullness and light carbonation along with lots of dense, sweet caramel toffee and some raisin dark fruity complexity. Finishes semi-sweet with some mild bitterness and a touch of milk chocolate. Very true to style and enjoyable.
