Commercial Description:
Bolita was a type of lottery popular with the working class citizens of the Ybor City district of Tampa. Bolita means, ’little ball’ but profits from the illegal (and often rigged) game were anything but little. In the 1920’s Tampa native Charlie Wall was the undisputed kingpin of the Bolita racket.

Our Bolita is a Double Northern English-style brown ale that has a complex malt forward character with notes of chocolate, toffee and hints of roasted nuts in the finish. Bolita pairs well with Baklava, Big Band Music, Cool Evenings and robust cigars.

Chestnut brown color with aroma of nuts, toasted malts, and caramel. Flavor matches with chocolate, and a hop-bitter ending. Wondeful flavor.

Bottle from 5 points. Big, malty brew. Notes of sweet potato, apples, chocolate, and spice. Almost an imp porter.

Bottle, pours a muddy brown body with a thick creamy tan head. Nose was kinda suble with toffee notes and some light toasted nuts. Flavors of deep rich toffee and candied pecans, light airy malts and heavy hops notes that kept the flavors crisp, clean and tight. The sugar transfer in this beer seems so clean and smooth, as the body is just heavenly on the pallate. Light sweet malts with just a hint of carbonation and just a dab of alcohol soak really make this a special beer. I’m not sure if I could change anything about this beer, but I also don’t think I would remember it in 6 months.

Bottle shared at the Houston Oct RB tasting thanks to ericandersnavy. Nice dark color with a tan head. Nose is sweet and malty. Chewy, chocolately, very malty, and sweet. A bit alcoholic but not overwhelming for the big ABV. Well done.

On tap at Capones. Poured a deep and dark amberish/brown color with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of caramel, nutty, some roastiness, and chocolate. Tates of the same toasted nuts, caramel, and chocolate. Alcohol content well hidden.

Draft from Capones. Poured a beautiful looking deep dark burnt orange/brown with a large super long lasting creamy beige head. Aroma was malty with some chocolate and grain notes but a little on the weak side. The flavor was similarly weak and the body was a little to thin. This one was a bit of a let down.

On tap at Capone’s. Ruby-brown color with some great lacing. Aroma of chocolate and molasses, sweet nuts and cereal. Rich and heavy for a brown and I can see why it is Cigar City’s base beer for so much experimentation.

Tap at Capones. Pours a deep brown with a medium creamy off white head that laced. Aroma of toasted malt, molasses, nuts, caramel and toffee. Flavor had a lot of the same toasted malt, nuts, light chocolate and molasses along with some caramel going on. Great Brown Ale, didn’t realize it was 9%.
