Commercial Description:
The Humidor Series is a rotating offering of Cigar City Brewing beer aged on cedar. Cedar has a more subtle effect on beer than more traditional woods like oak. But, we think that once you taste it you’ll agree that cedar deserves a place alongside oak in the brewer’s wood-aging toolbox.

( 750ml bottle, courtesy of ericandersnavy ) Pours a lightly hazy amber body with a moderate white head. Aroma of grapefruit, girly soap/bubble bath, cedar, and florals. Flavor of caramel malt and hops (citrus, herbal, earth) with a bitter, dry cedar finish.

750mL bottle from darkguardian. Hazy medium orange with a lasting yellowish head.Spicy lemony hairspray nose with a woody backend mild caramel. Almost has an alka seltzer water note. Flavor continues with the hairspray and earth, lots of white pepper and grapefruit zest, bitterness at a 6. Light alcohol. Mod carbonation with a medium body. This was not tasty--different--but not that great. Too much cedar.

Thanks to emacgee for sharing this one at the CC gathering. I’ve been running hot and cold with the wood-aged IPAs lately, but I thought this one was mostly quite nice. An appealingly dank pour with a modest fluffy head, and a nose mostly dominated by sweet tropical fruits. You do get some of the woody character there, which is even more pronounced in the taste. Some about the wood makes it taste like an almost rye-ish spice, and I found that it complemented the intense citrus pretty nicely (almost like southern Indian food in some odd way).

Bottle shared with Bigmmartin, thanks, g. Pours a wonderful orangish amber with a quickly disappearing white head. Aroma is hoppy and sweet with notes of fresh cedar, spices (maybe corriander?), pine, grass, and citrus. On the palate, it is a little dry, but refreshing. The flavor brings out a bit of a peppery character to it and really brings out the cedar (reminds me of the inside of my humidor). Overall, I really enjoyed this beer. THere was nothing too extreme about it, but the ceday adds a very nice flavor to it.

Thanks fishingnet for sending. Pours a cloudy amber with a one finger head. The nose is sweet, nice citrusy character, piny/sprucy aroma, spicy, fruity, woody. Interesting aroma. Flavor is quite spicy, cedar gives an astringency that I’m not digging, citrus rind and pink grapefruit juice, peppery. Spicy palate with a woody astringency.

Bottle thanks to Tarheels86! Bright vibrant gold in color, a little hazy, with a white head. Aroma is somewhat subtle, but has it’s share of spice and citrusy hops. Flavor is pretty damn nice, but nothing really strong or extreme. Moderate all around, with a citrus and grassy hops and of course a touch of cedar. I didn’t get as much cedar as I thought I would, but it stood out here and there. Just enough to add an interesting character to a very drinkable IPA.
