Commercial Description:
Jai Alai India Pale Ale pays tribute to the original extreme sport. Jai Alai, a game native to the Basque region of Spain, is played on a court called a fronton. Jai Alai players attempt to catch a ball using a curved mitt, whilst the ball travels at speeds of up to 188 miles per hour! Proving they have a sense of humor the Spanish dub this game, with its ball traveling at race car speeds, """"the merry game."""" Tampa was once home to a busy Jai Alai fronton but sadly all that remains of Jai Alai in the Tampa Bay area is this India Pale Ale that we brew in tribute to the merry game. The India Pale Ale style of beer has its roots in the strong ales sent from England to thirsty British troops in India during the 18th century. To survive the journey the beers needed more alcohol and more hops (which act as a natural preservative). This “big” brewing practice made India Pale Ale one of the first """"extreme beers"""" and a favorite among the Queens military men in India. Eventually it became a favorite style of the new crop of American brewers seeking more flavor and complexity than mass-market brewers were willing to offer.

Tap at CAH. Pours a lightly hazy deep amber with golden notes and a medium creamy off white head that left tons of lacing. Aroma of caramel malt, toasted malt, light citrus and floral notes and earthy. Flavor of toasted malt, earthy, some caramel malt, lots of hop bitterness that lingers, nuts and more English IPA like then American hop bomb.

Handbottled. Thx to lbrew2or3. Amber coloured. Unclear. Dense light brown lasting head. Aroma of pine, flowers, caramel, light sweetness, spice. Flavour of pine and flowers. Spice caramel and grass notable. Medium to full bodied. Smooth and balanced. Dry. Dense bitterness in the end, which is countered remarkably well by a subtle sweeetness. Very nice.

Handbottled. A dark amber beer with a thin lazing beige head. The aroma has strong notes of citrusy hops, caramel, and malt. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of malt, grapefruit, caramel, and hops, leading to a very bitter finish. Nice. Thanks a lot MadsBerg for sharing.

Hand bottle 50 cl. Courtesy of madsberg. Pours a clear amber with a creamy and lacing off-white head. Fresh and piney hop aroma. Medium body, sweet malts, caramel and fruit. Solid hop bite in the finish with evident alcohol. A very solid IPA. 161209

On draft at Teresa’s. Poured copper with splotches of off-white head. Faint piney nose. Awesome balance in this one between malts and hops. A bit chewy while still offering a peculiar citrus bite. This one stands out even after all the IPAs I’ve been through...very unique.

On tap at RnH. Came highly recommend by CUJO and I can see why. I love the homage this beer pays to the intense and fast paced sport, Jai Alai. Though I’ve never played, looks ridiculously awesome. A very vivid and rich IPA... citrus and pine rushed at 188 mph to the face! Really loving IPAs lately and this sucker is better than the lot of ’em.

Draft. Pours somewhat clear orange with a creamy, half-finger, off-white head. Aroma of honey, hay, wheat, and malt. Medium bodied with a simple, yet satisfying mouthfeel. Not too bitter; actually quite smooth for an IPA. Decent.
