Medium body with a smooth slick texture and soft carbonation. Solid balanced toasted oats sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration.
Good complex brew. egajdzis (3620), Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 14, 2009 [Draft @ Capones] Amber with a small, off white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of caramel malts, brown sugar, vanilla, and light floral hops. Taste of nuts, caramel, light roast, vanilla, and citrus, with some hop presence in the finish. michael-pollack (2639), King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 12, 2009 Draught at Capone’s: Aroma of malts, brown sugar, light nuts, hints of cocoa and roasting. Poured brown/very deep amber in color with a medium-sized, tan head. Clear. Sparkling. Flavor is medium sweet and lightly bitter. Tastes of chocolate, coffee, malts, slight roasting, light nuts, and light toffee. Medium body. Lightly dry texture. Average carbonation. Malt and cocoa finish is slightly sweet and lightly bitter. hophead75 (1952), Boonton, New Jersey, USA Nov 11, 2009 Sampled on tap at the brewery. Brown/copper in color with a good lasting off white head. Aroma of caramel, brown sugar, some light citrus. Taste has brown sugar, caramel, some light to moderate citrus, somewhat hoppy for the style, medium bodied, moderate bitterness in the finish. Nicely done. Glouglouburp (2810), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Nov 5, 2009 In short: A bold big hoppy brown ale. A chaotic but entertaining mix of flavours
How: Tap at David Copperfield, NYC
The look: Redish-brown body topped by a medium beige head
In long: Nose has a lot of resinous and citrusy hops blending in with the nutty sweet malts. That thing is so unusually hoppy for the style that I’m hoping the waiter didn’t serve me the wrong thing. Taste is like a cross between an IPA and a brown ale on steroids. Nuts, caramel, citrus fruits, tobaccos leaves, hops resin, toffee, toasted bread crust, plywood, more… Very bitter. Not really cohesive but quite entertaining. This beer is everything but boring, it throws so much stuff at you that my tongue felt like it was George W Bush giving a speech in a Muslim shoe factory. DerWeg (755), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Oct 28, 2009 Earthy mushroomy hoppy, fruit over traditional brown ale nutty roast malts. I would need several to assuage my perplexity. mgumby10 (1844), Jupiter, Florida, USA Oct 19, 2009 Pours a smoky brown color with a small off white head. Smells very nutty with a mix of dark fruit, caramel, and hints of smoke in there too. The flavor is very nutty with a nice chocolate finish and a fruity undertone. Very easy drinking and very flavorful brown ale. The nuttiness of it I ove in browns and this had plenty of it. Quite good.
