Growler: Brown/deep copper pour- sweet crystal malt aroma with notes of caramel and nutty suggestions. Slick light mouth feel. Crystal malt flavor- lightly caramelized with a touch of husk as well. Balanced and rounded. Good example, just a bit simplistic.

Growler at PilsnerPeter’s Spring Gathering. I’d been really looking forward to a CCB brew, and this was my first one. And it was a huge letdown. It wasn’t a terrible beer, just nothing spectacular. Pours a clear brown with a thin white head. Chocolate and more chocolate, followed by some more chocolate on the nose. Very one dimensional. Medium bodied, finishes lightly bitter. I did have another of their beers later in the evening that redeemed them a bit, so all is well.

Many thanks to juiceisloose for sending me a growler of this - shared at Peter’s NY gathering - lighty hazy, dark brown pour - nose of roasted nuts, leafy bitterness, brown sugar, tobacco (though this may have been a mental association based on the beer’s name) - this is a well-executed brown ale - a nice mixture of light bitterness, nutty character, light sweetness - a little fruity on the back end, with moderate cocoa dryness and earthy hops rounding things out - a well done take on a style that most people don’t appreciate.

On tap at Datz Deli, Tampa, FL. Deep brown pour ruby highlights. Tan head with decent lace. Roasty, nutty, slightly sweet. Refreshing finish. A satisfying Brown Ale. Slightly earthy aftertaste. Nice hop bitterness in the finish.

Growler, via GodOfThunder. Pours a clear tawny brown body with a small beige head that ran to a thin ring. The nose is a nice mix of nuttiness, roast, and some light coffee. A touch of Nutella, maybe even some tobacco (or is that just the power of suggestion). Nice full flavor, very nutty and toasty with plenty of roast to round things out. Nice bitterness on the finish, keeping the sweetness in check. Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with nice soft fizzy carbonation. It got a little stickier and cloying on the finish the more it warmed though. Overall, pretty darn good, almost up there with Surly Bender for me.
