Poured a clear rootbear color with a small yet retaining head which is completely lacing the glass. Aromas of roasted malt, caramel and a hint of cocoa. Roasted malt in flavor with a hint of smoke. Slghtly sweet but great malt flavors. Nice beer! TheCaptain (559), Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 14, 2009 On tap at the Brass Rail in Cambelltown. Poured a copper amber brown with decent foam off white head. Caramel malts with a robust grain presence and woody aged like body. Tasted stronger than the 5.5% ABV, great as it warmed with a slight dry sweetness towards the finish. Very enjoyable. jhliesen (406), West Melbourne, Florida, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 12, 2009 Tap at the World of Beer Viera--solid brown color with no head. I was at the bar, so I was served the drink right after it was poured. Roasty malt aroma complimented by nuts and a smig of hops. The taste was more on the sweet side with caramel and nuts. I didn’t notice much on the oatmeal side and I should add there was a touch of smokiness to the beer. The finish was slightly bitter. nimbleprop (929), SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 27, 2009 Poured from a growler filled at Big Z beverage. Pours a translucent, ruddy, dark brown with a thin, wispy white head. Sweet, malty aroma, bready grains, caramel, earth, nuts, brown sugar. Flavor is nice; cereal, bread, toasted grains, nuts, brown sugar. The oatmeal provides a silky mouthfeel. The end of the flavor has this earthy, dried leaf, maduro cigar like flavor. Very interesting. Drinkable and enjoyable. rugbydude05 (300), Kew Gardens, New York, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 25, 2009 Pint on tap in Tampa. Typical brown ale color with minimal head. Aroma is nutty and roasty and a little smoky. Taste reflects the aroma with the same variety. Palate is full but comes off a little flat. Overall decent beer. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 24, 2009 On tap at the Ginger Man in NYC. Pours a clear brown-amber body with a creamy, two-finger width, tan head that dissipates slowly and leaves a good amount of lacing. Aroma is nutty, sweet cereal grains, dusty cocoa, some brown sugar and oatmeal, and a nice woody hop backing. Flavor is a mild cereal grain and caramel sweetness, roasted nuts, smooth brown sugar and oatmeal, and a light citrus thanks to a leafy bitterness. Finishes drier than I anticipated after a light, smooth body with a medium length aftertaste. Overall, an interesting brown. Sweet and somewhat grainy with a nice roast and above average bitterness. Not bad. italianjohn (382), Bensalem, Pennsylvania, USA
