In short: A bold big hoppy brown ale. A chaotic but entertaining mix of flavours
How: Tap at David Copperfield, NYC
The look: Redish-brown body topped by a medium beige head
In long: Nose has a lot of resinous and citrusy hops blending in with the nutty sweet malts. That thing is so unusually hoppy for the style that I’m hoping the waiter didn’t serve me the wrong thing. Taste is like a cross between an IPA and a brown ale on steroids. Nuts, caramel, citrus fruits, tobaccos leaves, hops resin, toffee, toasted bread crust, plywood, more… Very bitter. Not really cohesive but quite entertaining. This beer is everything but boring, it throws so much stuff at you that my tongue felt like it was George W Bush giving a speech in a Muslim shoe factory.

Growler from Big Z. Pours an opaque black with a thin fuzzy head. Nose is espresso and dark chocolate. The flavor of this follows the nose but via a thinnish mouthful. It’s a nice fairly complex flavor. And the thinness makes this a fairly easy drinker. If you love espresso and brown ales then this is a must have.

This almost tastes like it has coffee in it. There’s a good nuttiness. Good brown ale.

Tap at Capones. Pours a deeper brown with some amber notes and a smaller bubbly off white head. This is a great brown ale. Lots of caramel, toasted malt, tobacco, nuts and brown sugar.

On tap at RnH. Served in a nice chalice. Tobacco, coffee, butterscotch, barbeque smoke. Complex and aromatic. A little dry, complex, and aromatic. Excellent brew.

On draught at Bar Louie Ft. Myers. Poured a clear rootbear color with a small yet retaining head which is completely lacing the glass. Aromas of roasted malt, caramel and a hint of cocoa. Roasted malt in flavor with a hint of smoke. Slghtly sweet but great malt flavors. Nice beer!

On tap at the Brass Rail in Cambelltown. Poured a copper amber brown with decent foam off white head. Caramel malts with a robust grain presence and woody aged like body. Tasted stronger than the 5.5% ABV, great as it warmed with a slight dry sweetness towards the finish. Very enjoyable.

Tap at the World of Beer Viera--solid brown color with no head. I was at the bar, so I was served the drink right after it was poured. Roasty malt aroma complimented by nuts and a smig of hops. The taste was more on the sweet side with caramel and nuts. I didn’t notice much on the oatmeal side and I should add there was a touch of smokiness to the beer. The finish was slightly bitter.

Poured from a growler filled at Big Z beverage. Pours a translucent, ruddy, dark brown with a thin, wispy white head. Sweet, malty aroma, bready grains, caramel, earth, nuts, brown sugar. Flavor is nice; cereal, bread, toasted grains, nuts, brown sugar. The oatmeal provides a silky mouthfeel. The end of the flavor has this earthy, dried leaf, maduro cigar like flavor. Very interesting. Drinkable and enjoyable.
