Pours like some thick ass black motor oil from the growler. Thin khaki head with some nice legs on my snifter. If this was any thicker I could have ate it with a spoon………..
Damn I love the smell of fresh cedar and this didn’t disappoint. Starts of with some spicy cedar (like opening a fresh box of stoggies) followed by some chocolate, coffee, and roasted malt notes. There’s also a hint of vanilla along w/ some fresh hops. Wow, I need a car air freshener that smells like this!........
The taste doesn’t disappoint either. Similar to the nose with some chocolate, coffee, roasted malts, and lots of spicy cedar. Really rich stuff here…………..
Super thick, rich, and somewhat creamy mouthfeel w/ the flavors and spiciness from the cedar hanging for a bit…….
Easily one of the top 10 beers I’ve ever had. Awesome mix of cedar, chocolate, coffee. I can’t wait to try this again and everything else that comes from Cigar City.

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Dec 16, 2009 Hand-bottled. A pitch black beer with a thin dark brown head. The aroma has strong notes of cedar wood as well as medium notes of roasted malt, smoke, and soy sauce. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of cedar, roasted malt, smoke, as well as medium notes of soy sauce, roasted malt, and alcohol, leading to a very dry, roasted, cedar wood, and alcoholic finish. Thanks a lot MadsBerg for sharing. Papsoe (15084), Frederiksberg, Denmark
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 16, 2009 Hand bottle 50 cl. Courtesy of madsberg. Pours a pitch black with a creamy brown head. Very spicy aroma - must be the cedar - with lots of burned malt and vanilla. Solid body, hard roasted malts, vanilla and pumpkin accents. Malt astringent finish. Amazing one. 161209 JoeTheYounger (285), California, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 14, 2009 Bottle from The Bruery Show and Tell. Aroma was pepper and cedar. Poured a dark color with tan head. Taste was dark sweet fruits, chocolate, and cedar which really overpowered the beer in my opinion. Pallet was low to medium. Overall pretty good though. I like the regular version better. JohnnyJ (1344), Carlsbad, California, USA

Chocolate, coffee, roasty malt, and wood (cedar). Intersting twist on a BA stout, and it works well. gym399 (1), Florida, USA does not count | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 20/20 | Dec 9, 2009 Bottle.
