| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Nov 21, 2009 Bottle via trade thanks to Sebletitje, and another shared by Nick3 on BA. Pours jet black and thick with a medium thick brown head, very dark, leaving a small layer of foam and good lacing. Aroma is nice and intense with chocolate, coffee, roast, molasses, and black cherry. Flavor is similar to the aroma and really huge with lots of roasted malt as well as some caramel, dark chocolate, espresso, smoke, and lots of cherry. Some people thought there were actually cherries in this beer. Hops noticeable in there as well. Palate is really full and chewy with a long bitter hop and cocoa finish. A notch above Hunahpu’s even, with a creamier, fuller palate and higher drinkability, although it lacks the nice spiciness that Hunahpu’s has. chronictonic (402), Wyndmoor, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 21, 2009 Pours a viscous black with a deep tan spongy head. Aroma is dark malts, burnt sugars, molasses and some alcohol. Mouthfeel is slick and oily, but a touch thin. Flavor is deep roasted malts, sugars, some charred wood and then finishes with a string balancing hop bitterness. One is left with some anise flavors at the end. Very good. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Nov 16, 2009 Bottle thanks to daknole: Pours an oily opaque black with a well-lacing creamy froth of very dark beige head. Earthy doughy dark caramel malts with some assertive piny hops and raisin complexity with hints of salty smoked fish. Starts with good viscosity and rich sweet dark caramel and bittersweet chocolate flavor along with nice dark fruity complexity and citrusy bittering hops before a slightly drier lingering roasty maltiness. Very well balanced and enjoyable imperial stout.
