Commercial Description:
This Russian Imperial Stout is dedicated to Gregory Zhukov. Arguably one of World War II’s finest generals and a man bold enough to appreciate the rich, complex flavors of a beer brewed to fortify a body through the Russian winter. Like military geniuses, Russian Imperial Stouts reach their peak with a little age on them, so we release Marshal Zhukov’s Russian Imperial Stout in sweltering August so that it will be at peak flavor come January or February. <P> Opaque black in color, the aroma has notes of espresso, chocolate, dark sweet toffee with hints of black strap molasses. The flavor starts with an unsweetened chocolate character and supporting notes of herbal dryness from English hop varietals. It then moves into dark toffee sweetness and closes with a slap of roasty espresso. Zhukov’s Imperial Stout pairs well with Mushroom Solyanka, dark chocolate, cherries and ground wars in Russia. Enjoy, comrade.

On tap at Capone’s. Poured a dark black color with brown edges and a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of chocolate, caramel, some woodiness, roast, and nuts. Tastes of chocolate, some brown sugary sweetness, roast, coffee, and nutty. Overall the alcohol content was well hidden.

Pours a pitch black color with massive three finger dark chocolate head that settles slowly and heavily laces the glass. Aroma is chocolate, roast, toffee, caramel, molasses, some slight smoky and woody notes. Flavor is sweet and roasty with notes of burnt coffee, chocolate, cocoa, molasses, light earthy notes, light notes of floral hops in the background. Generally full body, creamy, silky mouth feel and a roasted sweet malt finish.

Bottle from Kingdom Liquors. Poured a black color with an average frothy brown head that mostly diminished with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy roasted coffee, chocolate and alcohol aroma. Medium to heavy toasted chocolate malt flavor with a heavy dark bittersweet and small alcohol bite finish of moderate to long duration. Full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. This is a standout beer.

Bottle via trade thanks to Sebletitje, and another shared by Nick3 on BA. Pours jet black and thick with a medium thick brown head, very dark, leaving a small layer of foam and good lacing. Aroma is nice and intense with chocolate, coffee, roast, molasses, and black cherry. Flavor is similar to the aroma and really huge with lots of roasted malt as well as some caramel, dark chocolate, espresso, smoke, and lots of cherry. Some people thought there were actually cherries in this beer. Hops noticeable in there as well. Palate is really full and chewy with a long bitter hop and cocoa finish. A notch above Hunahpu’s even, with a creamier, fuller palate and higher drinkability, although it lacks the nice spiciness that Hunahpu’s has.

Pours a viscous black with a deep tan spongy head. Aroma is dark malts, burnt sugars, molasses and some alcohol. Mouthfeel is slick and oily, but a touch thin. Flavor is deep roasted malts, sugars, some charred wood and then finishes with a string balancing hop bitterness. One is left with some anise flavors at the end. Very good.

Bottle thanks to daknole: Pours an oily opaque black with a well-lacing creamy froth of very dark beige head. Earthy doughy dark caramel malts with some assertive piny hops and raisin complexity with hints of salty smoked fish. Starts with good viscosity and rich sweet dark caramel and bittersweet chocolate flavor along with nice dark fruity complexity and citrusy bittering hops before a slightly drier lingering roasty maltiness. Very well balanced and enjoyable imperial stout.
