| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 27, 2009 Rating #100 for this, 750mL bottles thanks to some very fine folks! Poured inky, highly-viscous black with a well-set cap of dark brown head. The aroma picked up tar, molasses, and dark chocolate spiced up by pine resin, softer smoke, and a bit of honey.. warmth brought additional complexity with layers of vanilla, coffee, and scorched earth.. a touch brighter/hopper than I’d like, but still excellent. Blackstrap molasses, burnt black patent malts, and coffee lay it on thick in the flavor department from the very beginning.. pine, earth, and peppery alcohol warmth spice it up well.. the finish showcased coffee and bright pine.. dark chocolate-covered biscuits showed from the middle through the end.. tasty stuff! Heavy-bodied and syrupy on the palate.. overall quite bitter, and those components played well with the thick malt base.. lower carbonation. This was mighty good! AgedOak (81), Ohio, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Dec 27, 2009 Purchased at Cigar City and consumed in Tampa one night after Christmas 2009. Mid-night jet black in color, pours very thick with a dark tan head that lingers. Burnt malt and some chocolate in the nose. This has a very creamy mouthfeel which was suprising as I was expecting a more oily feel. The taste combines burnt malt, chocolate, molasses and toasted coffee bean with atoffee sweetness I was not expecting. Finish has a slight bitterness. The creamy mouthfeel and combination of flavors hide the 11% alcohol of this impy stout. By the fireplace on a cold Ohio January night will suit this very well; glad I have an extra. darn1207 (630), Tallahassee, Florida, USA

Christmas day - all of the family just left - been looking forward to this one for a while. Bottle 1pt 9.4oz. Black pour with a finger brown head and decent retention and spotty lacing. Aroma is roasted chocolate malts, molasses, woody notes and alcohol. Sweet malty flavor of coffee, cocoa, dark fruit, cherry and caramel. Hints of smoke and alcohol. Dry roasty finish. Complex but nicely balanced. Great brew. mspindler (351), Alta Loma, California, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Dec 23, 2009 Bottle at Hophead22’s tasting a couple weeks ago. Pours pitch black with an impressively dark brown creamy head. Aroma is tonst of roasty coffee and some milk chocolate. Flavor is again abundant with roast, a strong bitterness but slightly sweet with a chocolatey mocha thing going on. Slightly tart. Thick on the tongue with silky smooth carbonation. | 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Dec 23, 2009 Bottle pours black as night with a coffee tan head. Oily minerals and roasted malt. Vanilla dry roasted malt chocolate with bitter coffee undertones reminds me of a baltic porter a bit. 11% where the hell did that go? Fantastic beer. holdenn (1446), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 22, 2009 750 ml thanks to drewbeerme. Dark oily black with a beige creamy head. Strong roast rich caramels, toffee, chocolate, and some ashy smoke. Red fruit is hidden underneath but the roasted malts dominates. Roasted malts and tobacco dominate the flavors. Some red fruit, caramel, and a slightly ashy finish. Becomes a little sweet, syruppy, and boozy when it warms up. Slick oily body. Despite this slight distraction, this is overall a really solid impy stout. well done. kmweaver (2493), Sebastopol, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 21, 2009 750mL bottle, courtesy of wavers1. Thanks! Pours a very dark, chocolate-brown color; nice oiliness; slight, oily yellowish-brown bubbles. Lots of oily, dense dark chocolate and bitter mineral notes in the aroma; honestly, this is kind of reserved in the nose, overly charred and simple. Full mouthfeel: lots of dense oiliness, dark chocolate, and bitter mineral notes; nicely balanced imperial stout, hidden alcohol, smooth, but tight presentation overall. Lengthy finish: bitter chocolate, minerals, nicely roasted and charred notes; solid. gunhaver (1043), Tampa, Florida, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Dec 20, 2009 Bottle. Pours black-as-night, with glass-staining lacing and a very thick head. Nose is huge on roasted malts with heavy hops to boot. Lots of dark chocolate and plenty of dry fruit, too. Some vanilla. Flavor is awesome: big roast, dark malts, coffee, chocolate, some toffee and caramel, too. Really cool, very easy to drink despite the enormity of it. Love it.
