Light orange peels and coriander over the sweet candy sugar and honey. In mouth, a good surprising rich malt, with notes of honey, hops, coriander, rich, perfumey and smooth. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 9, 2006 Sample from the bottle (330 ml) at the Mondial de la Bière in Montreal, 2006. It pours a pale gold with little head, plenty of visible yeast swirling gently in the glass....nose is hugely hoppy and spicy, rather surprising for me, full of wonderful, pungent complexities: punpernickel-rye, juniper, dogwood and touches of honey, just marvellous juicy and enticing....the body is sweet, spicy and redolent of tropical fruits (mango, papaya) sprinkled with brown sugar, floating in a boat of soft sourdough and dusted with pepper towards the finish....no trace of alcohol appears, the tongue is kissed by a marvellous balancing act, bitterness and tartness, soft but energetic carbonation, light but significant honey-caramel sweetness. A delight and one of my five or so favorites at the festival. This bottle seemed very, very fresh and I’d guess that’s the best way to serve this fine beast. OhioDad (2491), Hilliard, Ohio, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 7, 2006 bottle pours amber and fairly transparent with a short offwhite head. Aromas of yeast, caramel, a touch of cherr, some pineapple, and a bit of spice. Flavor is much more sweet with a lot of caramel, some candi sugar, some corriander and some yeast. Finish is somewhat dry. Light bodied for a belgian strong. Slick mouthfeel. rederic (1811), montréal, Quebec, Canada
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 7, 2006 Cloudy yellow gold hue, with a frothy white head, yeasty fruitiness of citrus fruits, mostly grapefruit, lemon, lime, with even a note of pineapple, with a touch of spicy coriander, ginger, and pale malt aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a nice pineapple yeastiness, with some spicy ginger and coriander accents, sweet pale malt, hint of floral hops, leading towards an soft acidic fruitiness and faint hop bittering finish. How: Bottle from after4ever, thanks a lot Tom! (complete re-rate, previously sampled at Montreal’s Mondial beer-fest 2006)
The look: Clear blonde body with many small particles and a very small white head.
In long: Complex nose with its cereal, vanilla, bubble gum and hops. Yeasty, very yeasty. Rather fruity with apricots upfront. Very floral too and obvious usage of spices although no specific spice really stands out. Moderately sweet. Oily juicy body. A little alcohol warmth in the otherwise short finish. My description doesn’t do justice to this beer originality. Pretty nice beer named after a creature presently playing bowling with Elvis on a deserted island. MartinT (5055), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
