Commercial Description:
Ed. Note: Although this beer was originally an American Golden Ale, after a short period of time the brewer changed the yeast strain, and it is now a lager. This 126 calorie lager with wonderful balance and strong hop finish is unlike most light beers. Reminiscent of an IPA but smooth and easy to drink.
It is named after the famous lighthouse that has stood on a bluff on the south eastern side of Nantucket Island since 1849. Perched precariously 88 feet above the raging Atlantic Ocean, Sankaty Head Light is in danger of falling prey to beach erosion. The lighthouse is the most powerful in New England.

12 oz bottle (Thanks Pam for the beer of the month club membership). Even from the first sip, this lager really impressed me. Not too much on the aroma, but definitely nothing offensive. Some pleasant notes of light fruit, zesty citrus, pale grains, and toasted lager grass. Pour was pretty nice for a lager, not overly carbonated, a wispy white head that retains fairly well, not overly watery looking, and golden pumpkin orange in color. There’s not a whole not of flavor here, but a few nice subtleties exist. Its light enough to play drinking games, but not at all watery. Some buttery, toasted cereal grains, a nice citrus for a light lager, a few other fruits, and slight flowery grass on the flavor notes. A good and not overly carbonated crispness through out, and well balanced as well, with a pleasant brief lasting bitter finish. Dare I say this is the best light lager I’ve ever had? Definitely, this is good stuff.

Pale golden color. Aroma is basically of roasted malts and hops, and what seems to be some corn in the undertones. Taste is a little bitter with some citrus, hops, yeast, and rye. Has a little bit of a bite in the aftertaste. Overall not too bad of a beer.

Aroma: Light citrus nose, touch of spice, bready, some grass
Appearance: Cloudy orange-golden color, really small white head, light lacing
Flavor: Kind of a light hop taste, mild spice, bit of a tang, a little dull flavor-wise
Palate: Light body, a bit fizzy
Overall Impression: This beer is just kind of boring. Not a ton going on here. It’s not bad, certainly has more character then you’re average light, beer, I’ll give it that, but in the end it’s just a little too dull to go much higher then this.

Bottle. Pours an almost clear light brown amber with a thin white head. Light sweet citrus hops, a faint touch of caramel, and barely a hint of grain. Medium bodied, slightly sweet. Finishes with a bit of grain and a good bit of metal. Began rather promising, but failed to live up to the nose.

Pours pale gold into a shaker. Bright white head with medium retention recedes leaving slight spots to skim surface. Sour malt and marshmallow aromas. Thin and bready with upfront caramel and a mild hop finish.

draft. Clear yellow golden. Some scothcy malts are evident to smell as well as some corn/cereal lager notes. Chewy layered body reveals more to taste than this brew does to the eye or nose. Crisp clean finish is typical of the style and provides refreshing balance, better for spicy stuff one would suppose.

Pours a dark golden color with a white foamy head. Head receeds well and leaves a thick lacing along the glass. Nose is grainy with some light grassy hop notes. Palate is failry full with some nice fizziness and a sticky finish. Flavor is a bit lost, kinda dirty. Has some decent grain notes with hints of cereal and a nice bitter finish.

12 oz bottle. Pours light amber in colour, good head, long retention. Has nice floral hops aroma. Flavour is balanced, not too hoppy, a little on the sweet side.
