May 28, 2002 There are 2 beers that I attribute to having opened my mind to the true world of beer. Sam Adams Boston Lager taught me there is more to beer than Bud and Coors. Cisco’s Whales Tale Pale Ale opened my senses to the hoppier side of life. However, I have not had the pleasure of revisiting this brew since my wife and I took a trip to Nantucket back in October, 1998. Finally (thanks to VENOM) I had that opportunity. Mandarin orange color with a cloudy/yeasty appearance. Creamy and persistent off white head. Very floral hop dominated nose. Full bodied and heavily carbonated, though not out of control. A tangy hop bitterness with an underlying malt base that does tone the hops down, but not out. Excellent Pale Ale.
